Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Glad to see y'all here. This has been a true place for me to come and share things, good and not so good. I have come to depend on this site to have a sanctuary of sorts.
Everybody here means something to me. I am doing OK this morning. Still not working, but enjoying my time with Rocco.........and my wife of course...........not necessarily in that order. I gotta go take the dog out.
To those recent posters.............it's great to see you here.
Big Hugs,
David.
Don't think I've posted on this thread but I like the idea.
Today is not a good pain day, been up all night with the pain. I'm waiting to just drop from the exhaustion at this point. It's wearing me down these last few months since I was injured at work in April. Having a rough time and doc says it will be at least a yr before I can think of going back to work. I'm getting scared that the pain isn't going to get better, I've not been down and out this long over all the yrs, this is by far the longest and worst pain. I so need relief, I could just cry. I hope that none of you are going through what I am cause it's hell. I'm trying everything and have not lost hope yet....I still have that but getting very tired of this whole cycle.
Thanks for letting me purge.
Hugs to you all
Cin
The new morning ritual I now have is going to take some getting use to. I am usually one to sit and drink some coffee and spend some time on the computer but now have to take kids to school and all that jazz.
It is hard on my body but in the long run I am sure it will work out.
Yesterday, I had a bit of a break through. I have been working with a therapist because I have a phobia of Hospitals. It is severe. When I am admitted to a hospital I immediately go into fear or flight mode. I have taken out my own IV's and tried to escape trough the nearest exit on several occasions wearing my hospital gown.
It is important that I learn how to control this phobia because of my brain tumor. I am possibly looking at surgery and a lengthy after care. So yesterday during my session with the therapist I realized that being in the hospital made me face the reality that I am not well and I don't like doing that. I use denial as a coping method. But the hospital make everyhing to real to me so and it just becomes overwhelming. In my everyday life I don't focus on myself as being sick or disabled. Yes, I take care of myself and take my meds, but I kind of live in a bubble of denial. This has kept me sane for 25 years. So I think it is a useful tool. Except, when it comes to hospitals.
Now I am going to work at reframing hospitals for myself. So that I will be comfortable staying for my surgery. Wish me luck!
I know this has been a difficult time for everyone on the board. We've lost some dear friends. I would just like to say we can all make our voices heard to DS. So, if you feel something is unfair or not right you can drop them a note. I really grieve what has happened. Yet, I also think that DS has a difficult job and I would not want to do it. This is a sacred space we all have to come together and share our common concerns. Before I found DS I felt very alone, and now it is like I have a multitude of friends. This is not something to be taken for granted. It is a rich, vibrant, and healing scared space. I look forward to coming to the CP group everyday to see my friends. If this were not here I would be bereft.
Hugs to all, Cathy

Tomorrow I go to a golf tournament, migraine or not. These are one of those activities where I find inner strength and never let the pain win. I do suffer after, but I pride myself on my focus and endurance. Going to be a hot one so I bought myself a nifty new hat. Maybe this year I will be migraine free.
I am so happy for you. I know how you feel because I was agoraphobic for six month where I couldn't go anywhere. I have always had panic attacks and missed a lot school. I am afraid of being stuff in a class room with no way out. That was pacticular true in Highschool. I don't like supermarkets, malls, large crowds, afraid of driving. I have had really bad anxiety since a kid. I had to calm my fears by going to some place I didn't like. I started off for five minutes sitting the food court at the mall, making sure I had my cold drink that calm me a little. I would have a panic attack my face would become really red, I would sweat, and not be able to breathe. I would leave after five or ten minutes. Every couple weeks I would at a few more minutes until I could be in place that freaked me for a least a half an hour. I figured this out because it was 1991 when I started this. I love my Mom for actually taking to some place and not really demand an answer about what I was doing. I am glad she took me. People do this in therapy now but back then I figured out I need to do this for myself, My therapist or med doctor never suggested it. Now it is a good part of alot peoples therapy to face their fears for short periods of time and building the minute up so you are so scared that you run out the doors. I still have problems with my anxiety but I don't get as upset if I have an attack in the store or somewhere else. I simply say I need to sit down and if I don't have something to drink I will bye one an sit down if there is place. in supermarkets I get something to drink and they pay for it after at the check out line by giving them the bottle. We have alot the same fears. Right now I am working on my actually fear to learn to be independent and take care of myself. It sounds strange but not only do I need to do that I need to learn that I am good enough to do things for myself. To get a mani pedi, get my hair cut. I haven't done these yet put the stress of packing has put to more stress on me that I am going do this all for a Christmas gift for myself. I am also afraid of traveling. I will be taking the train to Ohio to visit for Christmas, I will be able to help decorate and perhaps frost treats. My brother knows I can do something. he my only sibling that doesn't call me laxy. He has really bad heart problems and he struggles to work because of his exhuastion. i can't wait. They do things at chritmas like Santa was coming so it should be exciting. I don't know what to give to them. Perhaps I will give then gift card or just cash. I don't know what they want. I don't have a ton of money so I trying to figure out what is normal to give someone but not consider really cheap. I know my brother doesn't care but I wish I could get something I know they would enjoy. Well we will have to see how much I have near Christmas. So glad you are starting to face some of your fears. i avoided mine for a long time and it is really more hard the longer you wait to face them and isolate yourself from doing those things. Best of Luck. Erinn
Hope this finds the rest of you doing better. Sorry I've been so distant but never feel much like reading/posting when I'm hurting.
Thanks for all your understanding and prayers.
Much love, Vicky XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I'm in some pretty bad pain this morning thanks to the NP who won't let me have Fentanyl anymore. It's going to be a rough day. I have to wor at 8:30, go for PT at 9:30, come back and work at 11:00 then do a perm at 1:00.
I'd rather pour hot tar in my nostrils...
I am so tired this morning and would give anything to be able to go back to sleep but have to do grown up things so off I go to do my things.
Cherry, maybe it is time to start thinking about going back to the old doctor if that is possible, it sounds like your NP is more concerned one what her personal beliefs are then what you need for you pain. I still can not believe a doctor would take you off a med without tapering especially something as strong as the fentayl patch that to me sounds dangerous.
Manny.........how are the chickens??
Rocco went for his first haircut the other day, and with any luck will start school on Monday.
I feel pretty good. A little disappointed about what happened with some of our members, but I say, we must go on. This group means so much to me, and self control is tough sometime......that's all I'll say on that.
I am fortunate to have you all. Big hugs and compassion to those struggling.
This is an open thread. Come join us!!!
David.
When I picked up the script, I found that she had cut my dosage in half!!! Instead of calling the clinic, I talked to the Pharmacist and she addresed it. She questioned why she would reduce it suddenly by that amount and pointed out to her that I have no history of abuse!!!
The NP actually admitted that she hadn't looked at my recent records...idiot. So the clinic called and said she'd change it, but I had to relinquish the other script to the Pharmacy...duh, no problem.
So...I got the right strength, but it was short one pill a day! The Pharmacistinsisted on printing out my history of that drug and signed her name at the bottom. She said it speaks louer on paper. It will show that the only reason I had ben reduced to 3 a day was because I was using the Fentanyl during that time.
I made a chocolate cake with fudge frosting before work yeserday and brought it to my wonderful Pharmacist! Silly woman leaned over he counter and hugged me...yikes. I'm used to cyber hugs!
Enough rambling. I guess I was catching up because I haven't been able to type lately. Also, sorry for my lack of support the past few days. I've read everything, but then I was too wrecked to respond.
Hugs to all,
Cherry
I just got the results back from my latest MRI and it was very good news. My tumor has NOT grown, so I am still in the same holding pattern of watching it every 6 months. This is terrific news! It means no surgery at least for now. There were some other things in my scan, but my neurologist told me that this is commonly seen in someone with my health history. She did not seem concerned at all. So I am a happy camper! Thank you all for all the support and hugs you have given me it has meant so much to me. Thank you from my heart. Hugs, Cathy
I've been up since a little after 2:00 AM...grrr. It's going to feel like noon by 8:00! Today is my tenant's birthday and all he wants is one of my home made cakes. He put his order in for a yellow cake with fudge frosting. That's the kind I made for his son's birthday a couple months ago. His kids had never had anything but 'store bought' cakes in the past. Needless to say, I was quite the hero!
Two big cakes in three days are more than I've produced in a while. I made one for my Pharmacist Thursday morning as a thanks for all her support and help with my current script issues.
I'm still really hurting from my Fentanyl being excluded from the treatment plan. I can't stand this new NP I started seeing. I think it's irresponsible, to say the least, for a health care provider to take on a new patient and not bother to check her records! It took my Pharmacist to convince her that I'm not a drug abuser! The NP's excuse for eliminating my Fentanyl was that she doesn't like prescribing it! GRRRRRR...
