Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
When you are made to feel guilty for spending time with family or friends for holidays or otherwise it's time to leave.
When you are told "Do as you're told" it's time to leave
When you are told not to come for Christmas when you have all of the gifts for his family and then you are harassed because you couldn't read his mind that he really wanted you to come and it goes on for months it's time to leave.

when he often says he doesn't remember when you confront him with something he did or said that was wrong or hurtful.
When he tells you your doing stuff all the time that actually he is doing, not you. When he describes you exactly like him when you're not at all.
When you're on the phone with the cable company, and he's screaming at you, telling you what to say, asking you what they're saying, getting mad at what you say, and the woman on the line asks '"Is everything ok over there? Do you need me to call someone?"
And you feel humiliated as you tell her, choking back the tears, "No. It's ok. My husband's just having a bad day."
When you cry in the shower every weekend.
When you are in one room smiling, but as soon as you walk into a room where you are alone, or turn away from everyone (like at the kitchen sink) you burst into tears.
When your husband is late coming home from work and you pray that a cop car will show up at the front door, and they'll tell you that they're sorry, but your husband passed away in an accident.
when sometimes, you stare into a mirror, and look at yourself and ask 'What the fuck are you doing here? How did this happen?"
when your parents try to show up 'for coffee' every weekend, and come in the house with concerned looks on their faces, searching your eyes as they hug you.
omg. I have to go buy a pack of index cards and start writing all this down. There are too many to remember, and sometimes I feel like I'm losing my mind, forgetting things that have happened even recently...
In truth, that wasn't who he was. He couldn't HAVE EVEN BEEN that person,the only thing he ever did honestly, was give me his proper name.
I found myself one day saying, OMG WHO IS THIS MAN? I did NOT sign up for this, I didn't blindly offer my love and support to this person, he stole it from me, robbed me of my right to fall in love with an honest sincere man and most of all HE CONNED ME.....
That was after 5 yrs of marriage and 1 child. The real kicker was -he couldnt stand kids either!
