hey bud, that's all we can do is to try and support each other as we try to keep ourselves honest in all our daily contacts. it is easy to "fall back". but we need to make it a conscious decision each time we start to talk to make what we speak, the truth. stay with it and you can do it.

Copy that Medicx1945. Had an "opportunity " this morning and was able to just tell the truth and nothing else. Was able to not spin or rationalize.

another day (yesterday) and was able to get through it open and above board....just keep plugging away folks just keep plugging away.

Hey All! It is wonderful to have you guys talk to! Last night (since my last check-in) and this morning, I've been lie-free. I've been thinking about how I lie: sometimes by reflex and other times by design. Obviously the "by design" instances are easier to stop. For example, I've gone to the store and have seen something strange/entertaining in the checkout. On the way home, I'd start putting together a story, building on that experience, that is grander than what actually happened. Now I realize that life/reality/truth are more important than "a great story" - and actually truth is pretty great all by itself. The reflex lies are usually to CMA because of something I have or haven't done, or to make people feel good. These are harder because I've been lying by reflex for a whole bunch of years AND I want people to think well of me. What has been working for this is to wait a beat (or two) before answering, think about the answer, and make that conscious decision to tell the truth (like you have said). The problem is remembering to do it in time. Here's to another truthful day for all of us!

Welcome JLT3! I'm a liar, too. Just starting to come back from rock bottom, and learning that the truth is SO much better. There's a lot of support and good ideas here. As others have said, "…minute by minute, day by day, just keep plugging away."

I lied last night. The subject was something insignificant, but any lie is not insignificant. I did not follow the wise advice, stated by so many…think about it, then speak the truth. I have been truthful today, but I am obsessing about it and feeling really awful. I need to pick myself, learn from it, and just keep plugging away. Hope everyone's doing well!

I'm doing well today, bng, we all stumble and fall, trick is get up and keep going. like you said no lie is insignificant, if it is something you can't live with then tell that person....that's the absolute most difficult thing to do is face that person and tell them...we all deal with it differently, accept it and move on the best you can...good luck

Glas to hear you're doing well, medics! Makes me think of a quote - "Fall down seven times, stand up eight." The main thing is that when we get up, instead of hating ourselves and dwelling on shame and embarrassment, we learn from our mistakes. And find a way to not repeat them. Good morning, All! Doing well so far today. I've been looking at some earlier posts and thinking about what role selfishness plays in lying. When I've lied (especially to CMA) it seems that I'm thinking only of myself. Certainly not about the effect my lying has on others. It's difficult to keep others in mind when under pressure. Has anyone been successful at dealing with this? Have a good, honest day.

bng, mornin' that in and of itself is a great part of the problem we create for ourselves, we don't think about the folks on the receiving end of the lies we tell. other than keeping it in the front of my mind
every time i go to open my mouth, nope, that's the only way i can do it. am i always successful, thank heavens for the past week i have been, today is a new day and every time i'm talking with someone, that thought is in my mind. back atcha with the good, honest day
