  I don't mean to venture into a territory that isn't comfortable to everyone, but I have been struggling a lot with my relationship with God, or my higher power. I am a person trying to heal from severe codependent issues, that has led to a lot of spiritual illnesses (which is how I look at my dysfunctional relationship with other people.) I am trying to work the 12 steps as outlined in Codependent No More. I know I have been trying to "fix myself" most of my life, and it does not work. I...

  Today has been a little difficult and I'm not sure why exactly. I believe some of it might be hormonal- so it will pass. I'm 25 and struggling with the "life plan" in terms of career etc. I'm applying to grad school in Jan but am really doing it to please my mom. It's hard for me to trust my own instincts about things. It's for social work and I think I really need to take care of my emotional baggage before I try to help anyone else on a professional level. Working on therapy right now. I'm...

  I realized recently that a lot of my misery and shame came from my view of God. In my head God was alternatingly punitive and indifferent.I realize that maybe that stems from my relationship with my dad and other authority figures.I don't want it anymore and and I'm broadening my view of him as someone that is on my side and who lives within me. Occasionally I'm imagine God as a woman and that helps reduce the distance a little.
