I love you guys. Today's Wednesday. I'm Russ. I'm a liar. Good for 10 days now, but I feel almost like I'm breaking myself down before I'm building myself up again.

Russ - you got this! No one said doing the right thing was easy. Live in the moment, and you will do fine.

Hey Russ, I think that makes a good point. How can we 'fix' our problem if we don't take ourselves apart in our attempts to understand why we do this. There are some areas we find it difficult to go to, but these are usually key to understanding why we do what we do. Had a very frustrating and angering session with my wife over her reluctance to believe some very obvious truths. But trying to understand where her skepticism comes from ( my past behaviour and lies) helps to examine why I lied. But it still makes for a very frustrating period. YOU know you are telling the truth, but you have conditioned others to not believe anything you say. Oh well, off to Vancouver for a hockey tournament with my youngest son. The break will provide much time for reflection.

Day 4 down. Today was real hard. Keeping my mind focused, trying to stay busy.

Hi folks, I had an interesting experience today directly related to lying. Interesting and good. I had been contacted last week by a producer from CBC (our public radio broadcaster) and they are putting together a pilot program on ethics and morals in today's society. Each segment will be focused on one of the 10 commandments. The pilot program examines lying. She was interested to see if I would be willing to be interviewed for a 15 minute segment to view this issue from the perspective of a compulsive liar. I thought about this for a day or so, and made the decision to be interviewed. They wanted to know if I wished to remain anonymous, but I chose to allow my name to be used. I don't want to hide from this anymore, and maybe this public admission will help to strengthen my commitment to the path of honesty. I have admitted that I am a liar to you folks, to my wife, and my kids. It is time to not hide it from anyone. The interview went very well, and as hard as it was to discuss some of the issues, it felt really good to speak to total strangers about this. If this program airs this summer, I hope that it will reach others in need and give them hope that they can conquer this affliction. And it was another day with no lies. I look back on how I was before embarking on this path, and wonder how I could have been so selfish and frightened to face everyday truths.

Don't know where I'm at... this past week has been a busy blur. Positive note, though... too busy to lie. I think I'm at day 13 or 14 now? Damn, it's been hard.

Hey Russ! Busy can certainly be a positive thing. That is a good statement, 'too busy to lie'. Once you begin to tell the truth, you begin to realize how much energy and effort it took to lie. Telling the truth may be hard, but it is energy and effort well spent. I find that telling the truth, or maybe a better way to put this would be 'not telling a lie', does become easier as the message sinks in that lying ultimately is a lot harder. Now if only we could find a way to make dealing with the consequences of past lies become a little easier.......

Day 8 here. It's been a struggle. I'm reading a book called "Codependent No More". It's been pretty helpful and I suggest it to any of you who think it could help.

Alright, it's day 14. I'm home, alone, having a cold Guiness and watching "Shawn of the Dead". It's Saturday, I live in Colorado, it was beautiful outside, and I spent the whole day staying home doing laundry. I spent 13 dollars in quarters. Tomorrow is going to be a very rough day for me, and, again, I'm so thankful that everyone here has been so supportive. It's nice to have friends, even if I don't know you, never met you, you're here, and you're fighting the same fight. It's a nice feeling. Thank you all so much.

FAIL!!!! Gave in yesterday. The thing that kills me, is when everything was going so well, I thought to myself "hey i am entitled/can get away with this..." Why is it when things go well, I feel like I get to bend the rules?

Solitary - SOTD is a great movie. Not exactly a favorite of mine, but worth watching.
