Liars Anonymous Community Group
A support group to provide those with a compulsive addiction to lie a place to share hope, strength and courage with others like them; solve our common problem and help others with a compulsion to lie. We aren't alone!
Matt checking in. I think I'm doing well. I haven't lied, been spending time with M. too. She wanted to spend time together as a family today with our girls. Additionally, she wanted to come over for dinner. I made dinner, and we worked together (we both work online) for a little bit. I think all of this is positive.
At the same time, we had a couple of moments where we cried. She doesn't deserve this; she's supported me through all of this, and I owe her my honesty. I owe our kids my honesty.
I haven't delivered to either. I'm ashamed of it, and it makes me feel like less than a man.
I've often told myself that... I just need to man up, and face it. If telling the truth cause a fight, then so be it. At least you have dignity and respect. When I lie, I have neither.
I realize this, and yet I still lie.
I haven't lied though...
I also recommitted my life to God today. Indeed... to be honest, I've never so formally given my life over to God. I hope it changes me. I hope it gives me the strength and support that I need.
I hope you all are well.
I have made it two days being completely honest with myself and those around me. I had another slip up just this past Sunday - it was a silly knee-jerk reaction on something completely legitimate, but when caught up in the moment (and given my history for selfish behavior) i didn't tell the WHOLE truth - in essence lying. HOW SILLY IS THAT? I'm still striving to be a better man for the sake of not only me, but for my young family.
I am feeling change starting to come, but know that I've got a long road to go. Personal therapy starts this Thursday. Wish me luck!
I wish everyone a great day and encourage you all to be honest with yourselves first - i believe that's where it starts.
Rob, well done!! You have to start with yourself first. Also, catching yourself is an important step to making yourself the person you want to be. I've found the support on this forum to be invaluable. Good luck on your journey. Stay strong everyone...
Today is day 15 for me. Its been a tough run with some near misses, but its progress. I want to thank all of you for your support and help so far. Still a long, long way to go, but I'm going to get there. Stay strong everyone...
I have found tremendous strength through sharing with everyone here and conversely hearing of your successes and setbacks. Together we can beat this 'thing' that overshadows the good people that we really are - and I do stress that we are all good and worthy people. Sal, please never forget this.
Matt, I'm so glad to hear that you and M still have hope - don't let go of that, it's worth fighting for.
Mike, thank you for your support, it keeps me strong. Thank you everyone.
Rob, you said it very well: we are all good and worthy. Thanks for voicing our feelings. Today is day 17 for me. So far so good. Stay strong everyone...
I've made it through 5 full days being completely honest with myself and everyone around me. Now I can really start to see where this could go and the freedom that it can give.
Thank you all for your support and friendship - together we'll make it to towards our goal of being better people.
I'm not prepared to start patting myself on the back yet though... I feel as if I've gone days, perhaps even week's without lying. Let's see where I am in six months.
Mike and Rob, good to hear from you here, and good to read that you are doing well. Keep it up.
Today marks the end of day 17 for me. The weekend was a long grind in terms of work, etc. but it was also good because I spent some time with old friends. More importantly, even with a bunch of guys, and the BS that goes with being with a bunch of guys, I didn't lie once, and more importantly, never felt the urge to lie. Stay strong everyone...
I have hit the week mark being completely honest. Everyone has said it and it's definitely true - it's not easy being honest all the time because sometimes the truth hurts. But it sure beats the easy way out that we've all been accustomed to. I think one of the biggest differentiators for me has been not putting myself in situations where, if caught, I would feel a need to lie my way out of it. I want to be a person that I can be proud of; a father that my boys can be proud of.
I not saying, like Matt, that I'm ready for any pats on the back yet. But this is where it needs to begin. Have a good day tomorrow all, and remember to be honest with yourself first.
i lied today and i need help. i am happy i joined this group. ppl like me, i nvr thought there were ppl like me around.
my question is, i just lied to my parents that i attended an interview when i cud not cos i didnt have a necessary certificate. i have lied before and sure got caught as well. so if i come clean now, that is another thing they will tease me or scold me with when they lose their temper. or when they are joking around. i dont want to listen to them teasing me.. i die of shame when it happens.. and it is like i have a bad past. and that they will never let me forget it.
i had come clean for a long time now and then today i lost it all.. that is when i knew i needed help. if i tell them about it now, they ll stop trusting me again. and if i dont, i ll be caught. i feel i wont be found out this time so i dont want to tell them about it.
i am going crazy. :((((((
i dont have money to pay for counselling. so i have no idea how to help myself..... :(
is there some kind of a medicine that will help??
and i have to admit, u guys are doing a great job helping each other out here...
Just checking in today to report that it's been 9 full days of honesty. I've gotten started with my therapist and feel very confident that we're going to get somewhere. I have Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), and that's where my troubles start - lying is just an extension of it (albeit a really bad extension...). I have a long road ahead but the good news is that my wife and I are really trying to work things out, and that gives me so much hope and such a strong desire to be a better person.
One day at a time people, one day at a time. And remember to start being honest with yourself first. Have a great day tomorrow.
