just checking in...
Today marks almost the end of day 19. Reading the posts, I can only advise that all of you keep on the path. Its tough, its frustrating, but it is soooo worth the effort in the long run. Just stay strong everyone. Stay strong...
Made it through 10 days honest with myself and it feels really good. I see that there are a few new people coming aboard, welcome! Know that you have made the first big step by admitting that you have a problem that is out of your control - you need to own that knowledge. Now you can start your journey back to life.
It's Matt... just checking in. Things have been looking up for me... M. and I seem to be connecting. I've got about 10 days under my belt. I'm so not out of the water, but I'm moving in the right direction. Things are crazy for me with work right now. Still have my full time job, and have about 5 part time jobs, so I'm busy. I hope to be on here more when the full time gig dries up... which is going to be in about a week.
Well, so much for doing well. I lied about something so stupid and so trivial, but I wanted to avoid feeling uncomfortable and reverted to my old ways. How dumb can one person be. Sooooo....today marks day 1 without lying for me.
Mitzi, the reason we're all here is because we want to be better people. No one should ever mind anyone joining this group. Just be aware that it can be a painful process, but if you see it through, survive the missteps, and learn from each mistake, the person you will become is worth all the effort.
Stay strong everyone....
Day 11 has passed and still honest with myself every step of the way - I think my biggest fortune has been being mindful of only doing things that, at the end of the day, I can say I've done with complete integrity. My downfall for lying has traditionally been doing things (usually spur of the moment) very selfish or for my pleasure alone, potentially at the expense of others needs. So far, I've been able to escape those traps (that I set for myself).
Mike, sorry to see your streak end. But really, it's not that we're going to be perfect and never-ever tell another lie again. It's all about changing our patterns to not resort to lying so readily or as a first defense. Your an inspiration to me that you're doing so great! Carry on, my friend, you're definitely on the right path.
I say this all the time, but I think it's worth repeating: Start by being honest with yourself and the rest will follow. Have a great day everyone.
So here I am starting all over again today - so far so good. I never thought it would be so hard to make it through a day without telling a lie.
I changed my user name because I am ashamed of what I am.
I have lost the most important person in my life today because I lied, my lies are periodical, I can go for days without lying but then I will have a day of going mad today was one of them.
I tell silly little lies that you get caught out with.
I don't even know why I do it, I have everything to live for and up until recently I had a partner that loved me. Today I pushed the boundaries too far now I realise I need help.
I want to win him back and I seemed to have my lying under control until today.
I realise I have a problem and after reading the first page on this forum my lying seems to be treatable?
I do not lie all the time just some of the time.
My lies are embellishments or to protect someone's feelings I am just not very good at it and I only realise now how bad things are.
Can some one help me with some pointers?
This is the first time I have spoken openly about my problem.
Thanks
T
Mitzi, i know it can be tough to even get started, please realize that you truly have taken a huge step in the right direction by admitting your own short-comings. It's not that we're never going to lie again, it's a process that we all have to go through. And when you lie next, as much as it may hurt to do so, attempt to realize your own mistake (don't wait till someone else catches you - that's not the same thing) and set it right. Start by being honest with yourself.
Hi Tonie, you too have taken a huge step by admitting you need to be here. Reading everyone's stories, successes and failures will help you make some very important decisions about yourself. We're here for you in every way we can. The best general advice you might take with you now is to be aware of your actions - you're not in a place right now where you can run on auto pilot. Be conscious of what you're doing, saying and even thinking. You're natural pattern needs shifting. You might be surprised to see how just staying aware might help you see where you're traveling off the mark. I hope that helps.
Have a great day tomorrow all!
I have not managed to win the affections back of my partner but I am sure that when he sees the changes I am making he will look at me differently.
He is not talking to me yet but I don't expect him to be.
Rob Thank you for your words they are very helpful I keep telling myself that my lying is not that bad because I don't do it that often but even the littlest lie is such a massive mistake, one lie besets another. I have taken how awful and lonely I feel today after loosing my partner and I am gong to apply that feeling to the thought of lying, I read on here that someone else had done that and it had worked well for them.
Mitzi, it seems you and I have some similar traits, I am always here to talk about your experiences, the last day I have felt so much better knowing there is somewhere I can come to tell my feelings.
Have a lovely day all, be strong!
