Beating Trich Community Group
You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.

Hi, My name is Sam and I'm new to this group. I am 23 and have had trich since I was 12. Over the years I have tried many times to stop, however it's only this past year that I have started to research ways of stopping, and have been really determined to do it. I plan on doing so with a combination of understanding, will-power, exercise, trying the John Kender diet, and seeing a therapist. I love designing, illustrating, cooking, extreme sports, exercising, seeing live music and reading. I would love to provide others with encouragement, and maybe get some support when I fall.

I don't really know how to label this but I having a rough week and I can't say it's one thing.... I have a lot on my plate which is nothing new and I try to cope in many positive ways and do but I still have my moments. My kids more so my daughters talk to me about everything which I know it's cause of comfort and we are close.... however I really struggle with the venting about their dad which...

Feeling much better about it now, I will tell them when it's right, and I just don't feel comfortable about it now, maybe not even this year. We're not a very close family in that we don't really tell each other anything personal. So that's why I'm extra uncomfortable about discussing it with them.
Anyway thanks for much Phoebe :) xoxoxoxoxox
anyways
basically, what i said is a completely agree with phoebe on everything!
im not sure what advice to offer you on your mom except to hope that someday she'll return to how she used to be- if not, just know that there are many other people around you who love and care about you!
about your dad, i think waiting is definitely the right solution. haha maybe thats just because thats what im doing now though...hahha
my dad is the same way- caring, but in a distant no-details way, so its hard to talk about it. in fact, i dont htink ive EVER talked about it with him- not ever! weird.
but anyways, the way they react is definitely going to have a huge affect on you (whether its a pos. or neg. one) so i would wait until you feel comfortable talking to them about it and until you feel like you (and they!) are ready!
definitely do the trich retreat- that sounds like an INCREDIBLE thing! i have no idea how you even found out about it! but it sounds like a really great healing thing- let us know how it goes!!
xxxx congrats on the 138 days btw!!

The thing with my dad is that I know that he would love to talk about things that are going on with me. I can just tell he would love for me to tell him anything and everything! But just because of circumstances, like my being shy when growing up, and then being a teenaged girl, I never got into the habit of telling my father things. So now, when I would like my relationship with him to be better, I equally don't want to share things with him because I never have... But I do.. But I don't. I should.. I'm just scared. Ugh. Why is anyone even reading this!!?
I need to change the nature of my relationship with my parents and change is hard, to summarise.
Pfffft. Thanks firante :) xoxoxo. Will be taking your advice.
When I came across this quote; "Procrastination has been reported as a symptom. This behavior of putting off tasks is very frustrating to family and friends, and may be disruptive of personal relationships."
Argh... Just argh. Am I doomed to procrastinate forever? No... it's simply another thing I have to work extra hard on, yay!
Ok. Here is my two cents worth, as a mother of grown children, grandson, and a daughter to two parents facing medical issues that require patience, strength, courage, bravery.
Once you experience a memory loss, I have from two car accidents seat belt broke I went through windshield, I went through cab window when vehicle overturned, it's hard to reduce the lingering anxiety when you experience blankness afterwards.
I would frame the truth for the conference to what you are comfortable with. Honoring your parents means respecting the medical necessity of being simple with the truth with your mom's medical condition as it is currently. With your father, I would sit down with him and say this conference is necessary for your well-being and what kind of alternative does he have for the special day celebration. We ended up celebrating a few days prior, and I went off on holiday, had a wonderful time, parents were thrilled with my sharing of the experience after I returned home, and I had a special gift for both of them from the holiday.
It is hard to judge what words would work to establish the honor you have and what you need to do to honor your well-being. Sit down, write it out, sort through what works for you, and revise it until you are able to wear it in public.
I hope this helps. I would tell you, if I were your mom, go, and share it with me when you get back. My dad would the first person to help me go once he knew it was for me to improve my skills ( learning how to deal with trich is important to help us continue to heal!)
Sorry this is so long!
Thanks Mid for your advice. I've taken it all on board. I'm just going to put it off for a while. Who'd have thought that I, Queen Procrastinator, would put something off? Haha.
Urges have been nothing special, as usual only occurring as I pull on certain hairs. I guess now I'm going to class wanting to touch my hair as an urge as well.. It's all part of trich. Hard sometimes to separate the urge part from the habit part of this, anyone else agree?
Working lots which is good, I have an impossible deadline to meet tomorrow.. I better focus on work rather than being here!! Hm.
xox
Congrats on 142!
Stay strong, hands down, hands busy, hands together, and hair growing in!
Yep yep yep and yep Mid, thanks :) :)
