This weekend will mark 90 days of abstinence from lying. Someone asked me what I'm going to do differently now that I hit the 'magic' 90 day mark and my response is I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing - if it works, why change? This in no way indicates I'm 'cured' from lying... hardly. I will live with this and my past lies for the rest of my life, but it does represent a path of recovery and is truly one day at a time.
Hope y'all have a great and lie-free Friday.
I agree with BTR that last night's meeting on boundaries was good - thanks Laura. Nice to see we had 6 people there! The weekly meeting is growing.
Congratulations BTR on a big milestone upcoming this weekend! You should be proud.
I'm working this week on surrendering my life and will to my higher power. I read a good quote in the book "The Purpose Driven Life" that said:
"You know you're surrendered to God when you rely on God to work thing out instead of trying to manipulate others, force your agenda, and control the situation. You let go and let God work. You don't have to always be "in charge"... Instead of trying harder, you trust more. You also know you're surrendered when you don't react to criticism and rush to defend yourself."
I too would like to share something I read from '90 Days of Meditations.'
'I had always been a control freak who demanded, manipulated or threatened until I got the outcome I wanted. My attitudes encouraged me to lie.
I realized surrender was the only road to recovery. I trusted my Higher Power to work His will and let go of the outcomes.'
First, congratulations BTR! Ninety days is a fabulous achievement. Good job, Tim. Today I'm floundering around, and I'm feeling rudderless. My marriage has gone back to being rocky - largely because of my behavior. At my core, I'm weak, cowardly, and lazy. A pathetic combination. Five months after my first post here and I'm somewhat better than I was (don't lie as much), but nowhere near as good as I could be. I just don't work hard enough, and I don't do enough things differently/better than before to make a significant change. I don't respect my effort, so why should anyone else respect and trust me? Need to do better, work harder. Wishing everyone an honest Sunday!
As the Big Book says: 'half measures availed us nothing.' Ya have to be ALL in to make this work and I know you can do it.
Tim - well done - one day at a time
Today is day 13 of being honest. I had to cut myself a little slack and stop counting just days in a row with no lies. I have modified it now to be honest days which I define as either lie-free or if I do say something that is not the truth I immediately correct myself. I was getting discouraged at having to start my count over all the time. Sometimes the lie comes out so quick I just can't seem to catch it before it leaves my mouth. However I feel that correcting a lie as soon as it is said is the first/best step to stopping the lying all together. I think I can maintain longer string of "honest" days. :-)
Sometimes I have to sit by myself and ask if I'm being honest with myself when it comes to emotions - when I take the time to reflect I often find I am not and for me that is where honesty with others begins.
Happy lie-free Tuesday to everyone.
