Tomorrow is a new day. I will start fresh and continue on the path of honesty.
Lina - you have taken the first step. Be proud of that. Admitting it and realizing what it has cost you and reaching out - it is all progress. We are all here for you.
I have spent the past few hours reading everyone's posts and was hesitant to join and reply. I am in love with a compulsive liar and I have been seeking understanding about this addiction and why my boyfriend continues to lie to me. We have been together almost two years and this past May I learned some lies about him that literally rocked my world and I am still trying to recover. Since my discovery of his lies, he has acknowledged some of the wrong decisions and choices he made and has promised on several occasions to seek help and to change. I feel that he has lied for so long it's now second nature to him. I must say that I have gained a lot of insight about this illness from all of you and I thank you for your transparency and willingness to share your truths about yourself. It's encouraging to me that my boyfriend can change, IF he wants to change. This is what I struggle with everyday. Whether or not he really wants to change his behaviors. I have read that many of you have mentioned that your lies have damaged your relationships with your wives and girlfriends. However, in most cases, it seems that the women in your lives still stand by your side and support you. I have been very supportive of my boyfriend, yet it is so difficult to stay since he continues to lie to me. I have proof of his lies. I have tried to leave him but feel compelled not to give up on him or us. He is a kind, loving, affectionate person but I know that good people make bad choices. He tells me he loves me everyday and I feel that he does. I just want him to show his love through his actions and not lying to me. I just really want him to accept responsibility for his actions and find the strength within to admit that he is a liar and his lies have hurt many people and they continue to hurt me.
Am I lying to myself to believe that he will change so that I can learn how to trust him again?
Does anyone know of a support group for the wives/girlfriends of compulsive liars?
Again, I thank you all for sharing and enlightening me. Any advice is welcomed. I am praying about asking him to join this support group. He says he will do anything to keep me in his life but rarely follows through with actions.
I am so conflicted.
