Beating Trich Community Group
You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.

Hi, My name is Sam and I'm new to this group. I am 23 and have had trich since I was 12. Over the years I have tried many times to stop, however it's only this past year that I have started to research ways of stopping, and have been really determined to do it. I plan on doing so with a combination of understanding, will-power, exercise, trying the John Kender diet, and seeing a therapist. I love designing, illustrating, cooking, extreme sports, exercising, seeing live music and reading. I would love to provide others with encouragement, and maybe get some support when I fall.

How come the power will be out?
You are doing so well - rock on!!
I wonder if I have seen a couple of people with trich recetly, one in the butchers and one at a school I was supplying at - both older women so maybe it was natural hairloss, but I think trich looks quite distinctive, patches that are quite thin/bald, patches that are thicker and also some very white hairs. I try soooo hard not to stare as I wouldn't want to make someone feel self-consious!

thats incredible that she told them though
i feel like id have to find one that im close enough to that seems nice enough to understand hahah
congrats on day 209 sam- keep up the amazing work!
You can do this!
Mmmmm I'm sitting in front of the heater with a cup of tea, soooo happy.
WOW Granit! That sounds amazing. My cough is much better now, and I don't have any Vick's Vapour Rub at home. But I'll remember that tip for sure, thanks!!
Firante, I cut my hair too. My mum used to (when I was a teenager) , but I was sick of her comments, sighs, and tutting when she did it. She'd always say "you REALLY need to stop pulling you hair out". Oh mum. She wasn't to know I guess.
I don't really feel that nervous about telling the hairdresser. It feels really matter of fact to me, and I want to educate them if they don't already know about it. But I don't feel nervous because I don't have any bald patches... Probably.
Thank youuuuu everyone! 201 days pull free, so 7 months, woo! I almost can't believe I made it this far.
I think it’s still very brave that you’re telling your hairdresser, even without any showing bald patches :)
ALMOST 7 MONTHS!!!!!! :D
Hehe, and no-one cares about Lawson Lien. That's the small town I live in. We got ignore. If it happened in Sydney it would be on the news. Then again, a lot more businesses would be affected if it happened in Sydney!
Thanks for thinking I'm brave. I'll have my boyfriend there to punch the stylist in the boob/crotch if anything goes wrong hehe!
My little sister cuts my hair. She cuts her own hair too-- she's not a puller, but she bleaches her hair a lot and it's really damaged, and the stylists are very judgmental about that, as well. It's unbelievable. Why can't they just cut our hair and NOT make us feel horrible about ourselves?
And it's 210 days, not 201, to clear up any confusion. 7 months, YAAAAAAAAAY! Not surprising, because Sam is awesome and what not. :)
Ha and Emmy, yes, why can't it happen in summer?
Well I guess hairdressers disapproving of bleaching, pulling etc is like doctors disapproving over over eating, smoking etc.
Hehehehe, awesome and what not, THANKS! You are :)
And I agree about hairdressers.... why do some of them feel compelled to chastise us about EVERYTHING? I get that they want to make hair look good, but come on, between dyeing it, styling it, etc., everyone is bound to have some damaged hair, to some extent. Years ago, when my trich wasn't that bad, I got scolded for what type of elastic band I used for ponytails. And this was at the crappy "$10 haircut" type salon. Not that I've been to many hairdressers in the past few years, but if I went some place and they made me feel bad for the state of my hair, I wouldn't return.
I totally forgot you are in winter time right now. Whoops. How cold is it there? I can't imagine an entire day without power. You are a better person than me, I would've gone to the boyfriend's house, just for a little bit. :)
Hmm my memories of hairdressers aren't good ones, so.. Hm. We'll see! I'll have my defenses up though, so one little comment, GR, bitch sam shall speak. I have wikid evil eyes.
When is your haircut? You'll be fine. I talk about it a lot to people, and 90% of them react with understanding. I never feel judgment.
