With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Hi, My name is Sam and I'm new to this group. I am 23 and have had trich since I was 12. Over the years I have tried many times to stop, however it's only this past year that I have started to research ways of stopping, and have been really determined to do it. I plan on doing so with a combination of understanding, will-power, exercise, trying the John Kender diet, and seeing a therapist. I love designing, illustrating, cooking, extreme sports, exercising, seeing live music and reading. I would love to provide others with encouragement, and maybe get some support when I fall.

I'm not sure if this is connected to my pull free state, but I've been getting icky headaches every day this week. Maybe it's cos I"m not using my usual stress relief (pulling). Has anyone else experienced this?

Havent been pull free for along time.... maybe sincei was 16.... Back then i went a couple of yrs without pulling but dont remember headaches.... I so sorry to hear that.... Feel better :-) Congratulations on day 17.... Merry Christmas!!!! Big kiss!

In Australia, do people decorate with snow things for Christmas? Like snow in a can on the windows or snowflake ornaments? It doesn't get very cold or stay cold long here in Atlanta, but people decorate like it's a blizzard. It is like we are aping the colder regions' Decembers. I'm just curious about the traditions when your Christmas is actually summer. Not just a warmish winter.

Hi Diamond! Ummmmm yes in a lot of places people decorate with snow. Personally at my house we don't, we embrace the Australian Christmas, and have a cold Christmas lunch. I haven't seen many snow decorations this year though..... Yeah it's not a huge thing, in Sydney at least. There's lots of backyard cricket, i just finished playing with my little cousin. Things like pavlova and punch are common. Hehe eyes on the prize, almost 20 days pull free :)

Hi Granit, yes it is wonderful. We had a really nice hot day, blue sky, amazing. I get sad when it's cold or rainy on Christmas day. Though snow sounds magical! I'd love to experience a northern European Christmas. Hug!

Sorry to be a downer, but thinking about how I'm going to be fighting and struggling with this my whole life is just plain tiring.

20 days! that is amazing!! It is a downer thinking we have to struggle with this our whole lives :( I try not to think about it and stay positive.

My christmases used to be like yours too. Hot christmas!! lol.

It gets easier as time goes on. I'm coming up on 9 months pull free. At first it was all I could think about. Then gradually I stopped wanting to pull.

But I'm afraid there's no lifelong cure for trich. We always have to stay vigilant.

We're all here for each other.

I agree Alex, positive-ness ahoy! Just sometimes, you know how it is. Anyway I'm a positive person so I know that helps a lot in my fight. So in Taiwan it's a cold christmas? Really?!

Thanks for your kind comment Inkiri, I have been following your thread on this group, and have seen a few comments on trich world too. You are very inspiring. I agree completely with constant vigilance. And I don't want to pull. I honestly don't. I do get the urge but I tell myself, I just don't do that any more. I cope in other ways now.

My hair is starting to look ok!!!!!! It's about 3 or 4 different lengths, ranging from 0mm to below my shoulders. And a major part of my hair that I pulled out a while ago is now about 10cm long, just from guessing. So still have to wear it in a bun for a bit longer, but no headband today yay!!!

Yay! You're doing so great! Don't fret about the future. There's nothing you can do today except what you are doing. I really think that if you are putting in the effort today and are vigilant today, the tomorrows will get easier and easier. The important thing is Today and getting right back on track if you have a setback.
We ended up getting a few inches of snow for Christmas this year! My first White Christmas!
I'm so happy about your hair! Do you have Spin pins or hair screws? I use those for my buns and they don't pull at all on my scalp.

Thanks diamond!!! I agree. It's hard not to think about the future though! Ooh yay for having snow! How exciting!! I don't know what spin pins or hair screws are, they sounds scary!!! I just use a hairband and one bobby pin to secure the longer front bits of my hair covering the shorter bits on top of my head.
