Beating Trich Community Group
You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.

Hi, My name is Sam and I'm new to this group. I am 23 and have had trich since I was 12. Over the years I have tried many times to stop, however it's only this past year that I have started to research ways of stopping, and have been really determined to do it. I plan on doing so with a combination of understanding, will-power, exercise, trying the John Kender diet, and seeing a therapist. I love designing, illustrating, cooking, extreme sports, exercising, seeing live music and reading. I would love to provide others with encouragement, and maybe get some support when I fall.

So I guess moral is hands down, but I'm craving that feeling of pulling out hairs, the ones I know will have a large root.
Boo I say! But what is worse, wanting to pull and not pulling, or bald patches and feeling ugly and covering up and wearing a headband and not being able to swim etc etc. Well I think I just answered my own question I think!

I am pretty much obsessed about how many similarities we all have, but also how many differences there are between each persons trich. I don't get why some people stop pulling after being exposed to support. That's crazy! Why it's more physical for some and more mental for others. it's like there are two or three types, one caused by an intolerance to yeast, and another type where there is something "wrong" with the brain, and maybe another type. I don't know, just rambling now. It would be great to have funding for research.
130 days :)
I think there is a connection to the yeast issue, the brain short circuiting, and then the overall connection with other medical conditions. Which is why when we can fix one urge, three more can pop up...and yes, I keep looking for research projects to suggest this area for studying.
Stay strong, hands down!

When I attended a 12-step Trich group, I stopped cold turkey. It is amazing the effect that support can have.
Yes it's very interesting and weird Phoebe.. It really is a mystery condition! Support DEFINITELY helps, I wouldn't want to step away from support just to monitor what would happen, as I'm certain that it's essential.
I plan to find out the things that help my personal trich. I still haven't tried therapy, CBT therapy + habit reversal, dialectical behavior therapy, acupuncture, hypnotism, the John Kender diet, Chiropractic Neurology, meditation, yoga... I've got a feelings some if not all of these things will be very effective, so why haven't I tried them?
-Money (Saving for trip)
-Effort (I'm a bit lazy sometimes)
-Time (Rather busy)
I'm thinking of starting yoga soon, there is a class near me which I want to try, the instructor teaches Ashtanga Yoga, and he learned from the main guy who teaches it in Mysore India. Sounds really cool, I'm kinda excited. Thanks for the inspiration Firante!
Hmm so 131 days today I think. I lose count occasionally, even with this thing! Edging closer to 5 months.. slowly.
