Well I went to the surgeon today for my final post-op for the spinal cord stimulator. They took x-rays and everything looked great.
Now the not so great news.......My work restrictions:
1. No lifting more than 25 pounds.
2. No overhead work
3. PERMANENTLY!!
This may be a problem at work. I didn't anticipate a permanent restriction like this. I asked about that type of test w/c gives to see how impaired you are and he said that I will not take that test. Trying to lift too much could cause damage to the area in my neck where the stimulator paddle is located. This will be in his report.
Well, I'm kinda worried about my job, but the doctor thought I was more important........I'll keep y'all posted.
David.
Well, after spending all week recovering from last weekend I took my son to watch his girlfriend play volleyball. 2 hours in the bleechers and now I'm all screwed up again. Can't win. I need to recover by Saturday to take the kids to the renaissance festival.....hmmmm, something tells me I'll be good and jacked up on Sunday. I haven't had this much pain since before I had the SCS implanted. Even with it cranked up I'm suffering and not moving good. I can't get over how little I can do anymore, I'm really disapointed with my body right now.
My wife's been watching me suffer all week and seeing the pity on her face isn't exactly bringing my spirits up. I'm in my want to crawl into a hole so nobody can see me frame of mind.
Sorry for the sucky update, maybe tomorrow will be better.
Mike
Nealy Yeah it's all moved!!! that had to have felt so...good to know at least that part was over with!!! Glad you're all taking a couple of days to recoup. xoxoxoxoxox
David I'm sorry you were giving this news. I pray and hope that the business finds a job for you. If not they have to provide one for you! This can mean new training and they have to pay you while you go. It will all work out in the end. Hang in there friend and know He takes care of us, we just have to patient. Many blessings
Kansass, We all have flair ups and set ups, it doesn't have to be permenant. You have been feeling better so what can you do to get back to that place? Soak in the tub, take some ibuprophen, rest, all listed and then some. Don't make it worst by walking all over the place this weekend. Your son will just have to understand, maybe someone else can take him :) I sure hope you get to feeling better soon. Lots of hugs and chocolate chip cookies
It is cold here! Tonight it's suppose to be 48! It has my body protesting and wanting to start a picket line! Just give me a recliner to relax in when I do it lol. I'm so not ready or ever ready for cold weather. I want it to stay warm all year long. Taking donations now for that tropical island! Teehee!
Everyone take a deep breath and let it out real slow, now keep things calm and in control. There are many things that we can control and some that we cannot. Don't sweat the small stuff. I always ask myself this question what will this mean to me tomorrow and most of the time it's not going to mean much, so I don't let it make me angry or give me anxiety and my day goes much more smoothly. I want this for my friends too.
Have a pleasant relaxing low level pain day my ds family,
Toni
David, it sounds like your doc is pretty smart to be careful not to mess up your device. I hope your restrction don't affect your job, but it might mean that new doors are about to open for you. Take care of yourself, my friend.
Mike...sit...stay. Oops, can you tell I live with 3 dogs?
I had the appt. to address my knee pain yesterday. My PT was exactly right about my kneecap being off it's rocker! It was pretty obvious from the x-ray and also showed that arthritis has set in. It will take an MRI to see if I also have a torn meniscus which they suspect. I'm pretty discouraged with everything failing me when I have to be working. The rotator cuff is torn to hell on the right side and the left knee is killing me. I try to work while keeping most of my weight (thank God there isn't too much of that!) on my right leg and there isn't a thing I can do to compensate my right shoulder/neck pain while doing hair.
Since everything is connected...grrr...pain spreads everywhere from the injured parts. It's going to be a long day...not starting out well.
Blessing to all my friends,
Cherry
It is a cold one here and it seems fall is around the corner, I had a pretty good day yesterday and got some things done and not much to do today as we have a birthday party tonight so YEA I dont have to make dinner as we will have pizza.
David, it might be time to look into disability if your job can not make a position for you. I know scary but you have to do what is right for you and your family in the long run. Does your job have long term disability that you can research to see if you qualify as getting approved for disability might take a bit.
Things with me are ok as my back and leg are just at the normal pain and it is funny that I am happy with that as having a flare is no fun as they seem to last longer and longer so when i Just have normal pain I am happy with that.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Rocket, sounds like we're getting the same kind of weather. I like the change to cool but uggggh, hurts!!
Sore, hurting, tired and sad for no reason today. I think I'll take the day off.
Love to all
I got everyone off smooth this morning and now I'm going to go boil myself in a hot tub and try to loosen up for the day. I took my son to a volleyball game last night and the bleechers destroyed what was left of me.
I'm in decent shape this morning and rested but it will be a busy day. We have our autism meetings for the boys tonight and I need to get the house presentable. It's not bad but I really don't have alot of gumption the way this week has gone.
Somehow I'll make this a good day and then tomorrow will be a real test.
I'm fighting the depression but it's so hard when you're suffering.
I'm determined to pick myself back up today and get things done without overdoing it.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Have a great day everyone,
Mike
Got out this morning to run a few errands. Still waiting to hear from my attorney regarding what I should do about the permanent restrictions the surgeon put in place. This is going to get real interesting, to say the least. Thanks for the support. I'm trying not to get too stressed out about it.
I hear everybody about the cold weather!! I live in NC and we'll have a high of 58 degrees.......WHAT!!!
I love it here and you all mean so much to me.
Big Hugs,
David.
