Beating Trich Community Group
You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.

Hi guys! I joined this group in the hopes that your encouragement and support will help me conquer my battle with trich :) I've been pulling my hair out for 5-6 years. I used to have thick, long, healthy hair. People used to touch it and envy me for how it would shine. After a year or two of trich, though, I managed to destroy all of it. I wasn't one of those people who would just pull 10 hairs a day or something; when I got started, I could go on forever. Trich has been a major roller coaster ride for me. During the bad times, I had big bald spots in my hair that I couldn't hide; I had my hair shaved off three times; I wore wigs. I also went through two phases when I just could not stop cutting my hair. Pulling made me depressed and stressed; that negative emotional state of course only induced me to pull even more. The good times, during which I had my trich under control, generally only lasted 2 months or so. Currently, I have short, full hair with short bangs. Short short short. I worry that I look unattractive, unfeminine, etc. (I'm convinced I look like a sea urchin when I step out of the shower, even though my friends tell me that's just my imagination), but I'm happy to just have hair again! I haven't pulled since November 15--that's 72 days. During that period of time, my hair has grown a lot. I can feel the urges starting to crop back up on me again, though, so I'm making a thread here to stay firm with my commitment to be pull-free!

Do you think having anxiety could lead into depression? What are your thoughts?

It was a huge hit with about 200 guests. We got so many compliments on our hard work and the great time they were having. There are so many nice pictures on Facebook with everyone saying they reconnected with old friends. But let me tell you, I am glad it is behind us. We all put a lot into it. We are having a lunch meeting next week, which I am looking forward to. Yesterday was...
93 days pull-free today :)
yes do try and keep your hands down, I let myself play with my hair for 4 months but eventually the 'accident' happened and I don't want it to happen to you! Gloves on, sit on your hands etc.
Keep going, you are doing great :)
It is important to not play, it is.
and you’re so determined that it’s motivating to read your posts :) thank you!
hugs!!
94 days pull-free today. I really, really need to stop fiddling with my thinner hair strands. They're really not that thin, just weaker in comparison to the other hairs. There's only a small group of them, too, at my part where I'm always blow-drying in the morning to style my short hair. I keep feeling those hairs, which triggers my urges, and it's just bad. I was contemplating maybe just cutting the ends of these weaker hair strands to give them a thicker feel--but last time I did that, I couldn't stop cutting and I eventually ended up cutting a lot of my hair off. It was a different form of obsession with my hair than pulling, and no better. I just need to leave it be, especially since I'm starting to like my hair more and more now as it's growing out. I feel good about myself and I feel pretty, and I don't want to sabotage this again.
I can do this. Hands off altogether. No excuses.
Told my best friend about trich yesterday and it felt right. I've only ever told several people that I've known, ever, and only because I felt like I had to or because they pressured me to. Because I had all my hair and there was nothing to hide, I didn't feel the need to HAVE to tell her--so I waited until it felt right and miraculously, she handled it really, really well and made me feel good about telling her. Usually, telling people about it is really hard for me, but it was a breeze to tell my best friend about it :)
Stay strong, hands busy, hands down, hands push not pull!
Hugs!

My friends told me yesterday that they really liked my hair. It was an unexpected and very nice compliment to hear. It was unusually warm so we went for a drive with all the windows down, and my hair blew fiercely in the wind. Felt very happy as I just enjoyed the breeze on my face instead of worrying about my hair. Very liberating.
Feeling good about myself. For the first time in a really long time, I like how I look!
Im very happy for you.
