You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.

Hi, My name is Sam and I'm new to this group. I am 23 and have had trich since I was 12. Over the years I have tried many times to stop, however it's only this past year that I have started to research ways of stopping, and have been really determined to do it. I plan on doing so with a combination of understanding, will-power, exercise, trying the John Kender diet, and seeing a therapist. I love designing, illustrating, cooking, extreme sports, exercising, seeing live music and reading. I would love to provide others with encouragement, and maybe get some support when I fall.

It is so frustrating when you have the motivation and commitment but the habitual pulling just keeps happening. I was at that point for awhile recently. Constant barriers can work wonders!

It is indeed annoying, and then that auto pulling triggers conscious pulling!

Thanks phoebe :) It's going well. The whole process has been going for 6 months! I have spent so many hours working on it over that time. I wish I had added it all up. Hundreds of hours. I got a lot done yesterday, and now I've got a big day on Saturday (with 3 strong helpers), a furniture auction on Sunday (they take anything not sold away to their showroom), someone cleaning out the garage for me the following Wednesday, and I should be done! I can't wait! But at the same time it will be very sad.

A zero for yesterday too! Plus, no foraging. It's so much easier on me if I don't touch. Foraging equals high tension, yuck.

I hate foraging (whoever decided to use that term for it is brilliant, btw) because it blurs the line between searching for loose hair and actually pulling. Good job getting a zero yesterday!

I got the term from phoebe! And yes I totally agree with what you said, I hate it for that reason too.

After my 2 zeros yesterday and the day before, I got a 4 for today, boooo. FYI a 4 for me is 10-14 hairs.

Pf so far today :) I put bandaids on in the afternoon. It's 7.15pm now, am pretty confident I'll get a 0 for today :)

I got a 1 yesterday, (1hair). I'm definitely finding this month more challenging than last month. I've had 8/11 good days. 3/11 were zeros.

Ugh a 3 for today. Zero pulled til the afternoon. In the afternoon I knew I should have put on barriers but I didn't as I had some washing up to do then I was going to cook dinner. And I didn't want to put bandaids on only to take them off soon after the have to apply new ones soon after that. But I should gave. I chose not to delay gratification and I chose a cheap thrill over what matters more. Not beating myself up just being matter of fact about it.

I have often found that when starting a new method of monitoring trich, I am extremely successful in the beginning because a new system is motivational and that makes it a bit easier. Then the easiness tapers off a little once I get used to it and I need to be aware of staying motivated once again. I don't mean that to sound discouraging, just saying that the Claudia Miles system is still awesome for the many reasons you have pointed out and if you stay as motivated as you were when you first started it you'll continue to do great!

    My therapist really knocked some sense into me last Friday about my spending.  She said that there are needs and there are wants.  She said that there is always going to be cheap stuff to buy, but do I need it?  The answer is mostly "no".  So today, I am taking back some things that I bought online at Kohl's, namely a 9 x 12 rug and a quilt for my bed.  I also bought sheets that I don't need...
