  Trying CBT for Insomnia but need some suggestions.

  I just started CBT for my insomnia. My doctor told me to stay up if I'm not sleeping and get out of bed. But I find myself so frustrated because I'm exhausted, and I can't sleep, so just lie in bed. Are there any late night activities besides reading and surfing the net to do when I'm awake? When I read a book it gets me sleepy, but as soon as I try to fall asleep I can't. How do I push through and stay awake?

  I have an upcoming training for 8 hrs for two days(16 hours total). It's a two day CPR course for 1 credit hour. But,  I just tore my minicus in my knee & I can't bend my knee or sit properly. Added to my limited range of motion in my right hand(getting OT for that, can't use a fork without pain). AND plantar fasciitis in both feet & fibromyalgia stuff too. I had a training this week for an hour & I was fidgeting around because of my knee & fibro pain. I also can't take Tylenol or Ibuprofen...

  I've tried Gaba Peton & Lyrica and I didn't notice a difference in my pain levels. I've heard mixed reviews on Cymbalta. I really need relief, so I just wanted to know which medications work? What elses can I do to help feel better especially on bad days?

  It's been 1 1/2 since my brother passed away. I'm still adjusting to him not being here. It feels surreal. My bday is tomorrow, & it more painful during important days like this. He was always so great about making his loved ones feel special on their bday. I have a twin sister who is a narcissist & it's hard enough with him being gone & and her adding to the pain with her insufferable behavior.   My doctor put me on this medication (which can cause insomnia) and I don't like it because I have to take it with a snack that has to be 350 calories to absorb it an hour before bed. I've tried different snacks that aren't that hard to digest i.e.-yogurt. But once I eat food it wakes me up. Plus, I'm packing on pounds because of the extra calories. I told my doctor that when I get into CBT training for insomnia, they're going to want me to go off of it because good sleep hygiene mean no food...

  I life with a relative who gets angry with me that I'm unable to do the never ending list of tasks she want. Today she asks me to do something that I couldn't do and I get berated and devalued because I can't do what she wants. I can't make her have empathy, sympathy, or understanding because she's not capable. But I'm left feeling worthless and she's angry all the time.   So I might have sleep apnea. I have a sleep study schedule but not for another month. Then I'll have to wait another month to get results. And more waiting before I get treatment. Meanwhile, I'm going through insomnia. It's scary when I drift off only to wake myself up gasping for air. Does sleep apnea affect the heart?This could be my anxiety though. What symptoms are there?

  I was wondering if any could suggest how to navigate this disorder with my PCP. I'm getting a physical soon & I'm concerned about being able to take a class that will be  all day (8 hours) for the whole semester. I'm beyond my threshold for pain just doing the basics. Plus, I have plantar fasciitis in both feet! I can't even begin to describe what a day feels like; all the while, trying to navigate & understand fibromyalgia.

  I've had insomnia before, but not as bad as this. Trying to get medical help has been futile. I'm sick of trying to tell my doc what this is like and not getting any help! I won't get to see a sleep specialist for 3 months. What do I do? Any advice would help.
