You want to do something relaxing, even boring to help you feel drowsy. Then head to bed and try sleep again. Reading or watching something relaxing and not stimulating on TV are usually good choices. The 'net can be too providing it's not stimulating.
You probably have a conditioned negative response to your bed and the idea of sleep, which is very common, so you need to undo that conditioning. That's what this process is doing. When you head back to bed if you still can't sleep, repeat the process. Keep repeating it until you do fall asleep.
And you will. Guaranteed. Your physiological requirement for sleep is more powerful than your insomnia. That's why this method works.
I personally followed her advise in addition I listen to free meditation sleep apps prior to bed time. Very relaxing and relax my mind for a better sleep. She also suggested talking to my Dr about anxiety. My dr described anxiety symptoms and I defiantly have minor anxiety. She put me on a low dose anti anxiety med and I sleep the best i have slept in over 20 years. The low dose meds do not effect the person i am, like spacing me out or make me emotionless. It just takes the chill off.
hope this helps. Good luck to you.
If you don’t fall asleep within 20 to 30 minutes of getting into bed or after waking up get out of bed. Do a boring task. Don’t turn bright lights on. I use nightlights and dimmer switches. Read something dry and boring. Try isocronic tones, binaural beats or a sleep story.
Try music by J.S. Epperson. Use binaural beats or isocronic tones in the Delta range. A mind machine or a light and sound machine may help.
Dr. Breus has some good advise. One thing he recommends is a teaspoon of raw honey before getting into bed.
I went to a sleep doctor. She offered two options: CBTi or sleep meds. No way to sleep meds. I tried CBTi. I used the online program SHUTi. Didn’t work for me.
