Hello Group! My name is Brandi and I am a liar. I'm seeking help to curb my urge to lie. It is effecting my relationships with family and my boyfriend, whom I love dearly. I'm afraid if I don't fix this, I may lose him and it would be completely my fault. My lying is mostly about trivial things, white lies, stupid things, sexual history (which he has told me is the biggest thing I have LIED about), etc. He has lost his faith in me and doesn't believe anything I say is truthful and I can't blame him. If I lie about these things, why wouldn't I lie to him about big things, right?? He believes I would cheat on him with the right guy, right place. I've been cheated on and he has a hard time believing that someone who has been cheated on would never cheat. The honest truth is I would NEVER cheat on someone because I know that feeling a little too well.

I have the exact same same situation as you. It can get get frustrating when our partner doesn't believe us when we ARE telling the truth yet we have to understand where they are coming from. They have been lied to in the past and they are not sure when we are telling the truth anymore. We have to have patience as trust may take a long time to rebuild in any relationship. Stay the course all! There is a victory waiting. I joined this site in January. I started my journey to change before then. I work at this every day. I have stumbled in the process. I have a hard time admitting shameful behavior (at least what I consider shameful). My journey has led to addressing co dependency, stopping any behavior patterns or activities that I consider shameful, learning to be transparent with my thoughts ( work in progress as hate to be confrontational or cause discomfort with sensitive subjects) etc. With daily practice I have grown. My partner is again learning that I truly can be trusted. Know this takes time! Lots and lots of time. Know we only have ourselves to blame. Although we get frustrated when telling the truth and not being totally believed it is our "cross to bare". Hold empathy for those we have hurt. Loose self pity. Do the work. I am coming out on the other side (every day I have to do the work). The relief is huge and gratifying. I know there will still be time required for me to be able to say "look into my eyes" when I tell you this so I am believed. But it is beginning!! Remember this effort is not for today,tomorrow or next month. It is for a life time. Remember, stay kind to yourself!

Hi everyone. My name is Max and I am liar. I'm back to 1 day honest, so it's a start! Mikeyrg, beautiful post, man. You hit so many key ideas dead on. I think you're right, there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel, but it's IMPERATIVE not to quit or slow down because you've seen this light. I have a tenancy to overestimate my accomplishments/progress, and have to remind myself daily to stay humble and work on my empathy. I will continue to work towards complete honesty every single day that I am alive. Should I ever reach it, I'll keep working daily to maintain it. Hi everyone. My name is Max and I am a liar. I've been honest for 4 days. Yesterday I made an interesting observation about my lying. It seems I have a habit of planning lies when I get excited as well as nervous/upset. I've been so focused on the negative aspect of my emotions that I forgot to examine the other half of the spectrum. Honesty is becoming easier for me, so I'm starting to make better observations about my behavior as a whole. There is still a huge amount of work ahead of me, but I feel like I'm making progress. Hi everyone. My name is Max and I am a liar. Sadly I am back to 0 days. I exaggerated a detail during conversation with my wife last night. This is the first time I've been dishonest with her since the 26th of October. I'm really disappointed that I did not catch myself in time, but this is the reality of my situation. I haven't posted for a long while because I've been honest. But yesterday I told a lie. A friend was dropping in to see me, but every day my husband calls me at lunchtime. I really look forward to his calls and I would struggle to get through the afternoon without having spoken to him. I told me friend I'd be going out at around the time he usually called. I told him what I'd told her and he was very upset. He wouldn't have minded if I'd told him not to call, or if he'd called and I couldn't talk because she was there. It really upset him because he was confused about my motive for lying. Seemingly such a small thing but it clearly shook the little trust he has in me. I've been doing well for so long and it's shaken me as well that I couldn't be honest.

I start this day again committed to being true to whom and what I am.
