You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.
Agggh technology is just the worst sometimes. And pulling, while terrible, can sometimes be cathartic, and its great that you stayed pull free for most of the rest of the day.
ALSO - look at all those 0's in the August section- thats awesome!!! good for you :)
So much September has not been kind to my hair. Basically between Sept 2 to the 14th, I had a huge nearly non-stop pulling free. Did some REAL BAD damage to the top of my head. I wasn't counting hairs that I was pulling out, I wasn't trying to stop. I just pulled pulled pulled pulled. There was one day when I tried counting hairs and by noon I had pulled out like 200. Which means I was probably pulling out maybe like 400 hairs a day, because it was just practically non-stop, the whole live-long day. GREAT. 400+ hairs. A NEW RECORD.
I didn't want to update my thread again until I had some good news. What was there to say? I didn't even really want to face up to how much I was pulling. I just wanted to pull and be left in peace.
ANYWAY...
This week has been better. I work at home and just wear a hat. What has REALLY been helping is putting band-aids on my fingers, which I originally started wearing because I bit off all my fingernails until they were raw and bloody. Oh yeah, guess I'm biting my nails again too.
So my nails look disgusting, my hair looks disgusting, and I pretty much just feel disgusting a lot of the time.
BUT... Thanks the band aids I have been pretty pull-lite this week. I was even pull free on Wednesday! And today.... So thank god at least barriers are working for me, for now. In the past when I have tried to wear band-aids to stop pulling, I would just take the bandaids off, or I would just pull anyway. For whatever reason, now it seems to have stopped my urges almost completely.
Anyway, yeah. I WANNA GET BETTER.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8twpQTna_9w
Those super intense pulling periods usually don't last too long. It seems you're out of it now. Do what you know works for you - counting hairs, barriers, etc., but don't beat yourself up over the bad days.
That being said, pull free today also. Will have to post photos soon of my bald spots (I still haven't posted photos of my hair cut from like a month ago!!!)
It is just so bizarre. Right now, I don't even have to think about staying pull free. I just don't even THINK about it. I just have no urges whatsoever, even though I am still dealing with the same ole stress / anxiety / self doubt / the usual blah blah blah. What has changed? I have no idea. Maybe I just pulled out so much over that 10-day period, that my brain is just like, NOPE, the thrill is gone. WHO... KNOWS... I am enjoying it while it lasts.
Bought a huge box of 100 band aids. I'm looking forward to using them all up.
September has been pretty rough for me pulling wise also. I've gotten the worst numbers yet since I started eating my pulling in June. And I thought August was bad!
