Beating Trich Community Group
You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.

Hi, My name is Sam and I'm new to this group. I am 23 and have had trich since I was 12. Over the years I have tried many times to stop, however it's only this past year that I have started to research ways of stopping, and have been really determined to do it. I plan on doing so with a combination of understanding, will-power, exercise, trying the John Kender diet, and seeing a therapist. I love designing, illustrating, cooking, extreme sports, exercising, seeing live music and reading. I would love to provide others with encouragement, and maybe get some support when I fall.

You're right about not obsessing about problem areas. I'm quite good at that actually, I only looked today because I was checking out how my dye job went (er, not great, feck, damn grey!) I usually put dermatch in my wet hair without using a mirror and then don't look at it til it's dry. I do need to be more accepting though. Thanks :) And yes, thank goodness for those products. I think I actually said that to myself today as I was applying it.
t'll grow in and look beautiful! and know that you're beautiful hair or not :) not let yourself see the bald spots, just the the potential for growth! :)
stay strong! you have a great plan and a great outlook and new motivation
so proud of you!
I did make one day pull free, in my terms. I subconsciously pulled a few very loose hairs out (boo robo arm) But I also resisted pulling many hairs. And I resisted playing with my hair a lot. Tightening up the restrictions today, I must try to stamp out the automatic plucking motion.
Nice wine tonight! :)
Day 2.
Congratulations on day one! IT IS THE TOUGHEST DAY!
They do Manda! Ah, that area has always been my problem area. It's always a pain when the different areas join up though. Thanks, looking forward to the wine tonight :)
Day 2 is going ok, but I have been pulling some loose hairs unconsciously.. I've resisted a lot though, and have kept my hands down a lot. I know with practice comes increased awareness, so.. If this is still happening tomorrow I'll start my count over. Ok?
But if you really want nice wine again that's cool too!
I have promised myself a nice bottle of wine tonight if I make it through pull free! AHHH! HOPE I MAKE IT !
I say go for the appreciation. Sometimes, we are so hard on ourselves that we take it out on our sensitive scalps, and we need to appreciate the effort we make in managing the entire project, not just the tug part. That tug goes in all directions.
Best wishes!
You can do this!
Man, you are undertaking such a huge job, with so much responsibility. Pat yourself on the back!!!! Accept help wherever you can.
Do your best with the PF. Persevere, but don't drive yourself crazy. I'm going for small tins, and not being too bummed when I slip up, as long as I jump back on the wagon right away. HUGS
Thanks Mid, interesting advice.
Thank you Manda!
Haha small tins indeed Phoebe :) Thank you for your kind words, I am patting myself on back and accepting help when I can. Even asking for it! Back on the wagon right away, yes indeed. I have to consistently work at that.
Have been feeling a lot of grief and sadness lately. Is good to acknowledge it. My therapist helped me to see that today, she helps a lot. Accidentally pulled one hair today (it's midday) but I'm getting a reward if I'm otherwise pf today. Umm. Fancy stickers for my chart. My naked naked chart.
