You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.
As for the whole big goals = more progress, yes I agree. I guess the problem only occurs when the goals you set are unrealistic, or you beat yourself up/feel bad for not reaching it in time. Also feeling bad for not doing more is no good. Ugh I don't know! I sure ramble a lot. Where have you travelled manda? I've been a fair few places, but my husband and I plan to travel the world for a year in about a year and a half. Travel is probably my biggest ambition/desire.
I've been all over Asia and I lived in Europe for awhile as well. Traveling for a year sounds AMAZING! Make sure you visit Taiwan!
Another day of zero pulling. It's the 10th in a row. I've now collected 20 smiley faces in the past 22 days :) 13 out of the 22 have been pull free.
glad that its an easy time :) i think all times can be easy times with a change of perspective - thats my new mentality for battle #90020402390 against trich hahaha
hugs!
I love the rock analogy. Maybe I will print that out along with Phoebe's list of stop-pulling strategies. Which I haven't been carrying around with me lately, because I haven't been on top of it...
I want to go to Taiwan to meet up too! : ( So far away though from my side of the world ha ha ha! The closest I have been to Asia is San Francisco (aka, not close at all!)
I am also a TERRIBLE perfectionist with a very loud inner critic. It's been very debilitating. One really helpful exercise I did with my counselor was to make a list of why I thought I had such a strong critical voice. And once I actually wrote it down, I realized that there are a lot of pretty good reasons why I am so hard on myself (mostly because of childhood & family dynamics, surprise surprise).
I also used to be really ambitious professionally but I had a lot of professional "setbacks" this year. At this point I am kind of like UGH I can't deal with being ambitious career-wise anymore, I just want to not be depressed and not pull out loads of hair!!
Anyway, perfectionism and a loud, inner critical voice seems to be a very common factor in trich, it seems...
Anyway,
J - I like it too :) I can imagine using it always. And I kind of agree about the new perspective thing.
Trish - thanks!!! Taiwan is pretty far from me too. DAMN INNER CRITIC! Due to therapy I've been able oyster why mine is so loud too. Yep, childhood/family (mother) situation also. Fuuuun. For sure it is common in Trich sufferers.
It's kind of stressing me out!
Yes, I am trying not to stress about it, ha.
