Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
So sad to read your post.
Know that Ollie did leave a huge legacy and has inspired people all over the world. I learned so much from him, about how to live. I will always take this, and his memory, with me.

It must have been so hard for you to sit down and let us know what happened, Thank You! My heart is breaking for you and your family, sending out prayers and hugs. Ollie was so special, I played his one of his favorite songs " What a strange trip its been" and he is right, we just have to keep Truckin' along. He has taught me that in his posts. I can imagine him riding his motorcycle on a beautiful day, just listening to that song. I am grateful that he is free from illness and pain, but I will miss him. Love to you and your family.
Love,
Suzanne
What courage it must take to be the caregiver. While many of us are the ones who have been cared for, the enormity of the task is not lost on us.
We know that you have always been there taking care of Ollie as he read and then posted and taught and amused us with his knowledge, experience, and humor. What a fortunate guy to have by his side someone so strong and incredible as you must be.
Your post to us, all of us in so many places around the world, was so touching. We thank you for taking on the difficult task of keeping us informed at such a difficult time in your life. We appreciate your care of us, too, just as Ollie appreciated your care of hm. You have given us a great gift in more ways than one.
Our love and prayers go out to you and your family as you grieve for sweet Ollie.
Therese
Ollie,
Recently I re read your replies to me as I was terrified of my diagnosis. I found this site and it was the only one that was not doom and gloom yet honest and truthful to what we all face and faced together. You kept talking about my young age and my health and were nothing but positive about my possible recovery and how much I had to live for. Regardless of what time is. What time was defined for all of us on this planet. You let me know I had a rough road ahead of me and yet you also let me know that road would be one filled with blessings as much as it would be filled with pain. You shared the Giants seemingly impossible run to the championship. You were always grateful for the time you were in remission even after it came back. You were more of a support to me than you even knew. You and Dave were there for me with every paranoid, hypochondriachal question I might have had. You also let me know every one of those fears and questions were warranted and worthy of asking. You gave so much to so many since you joined this board. I can sincerely say, since your diagnosis and joining Daily Strength you were a warrior of hope and love. What a fitting tribute to a life well lived. My heart and support are with your family and Sally in this upcoming year and beyond. Thank you Ollie. Thank you.
Ed
Like many others I was so glad to find this site and Ollie was the first to welcome me, be interested in my story and make me feel included. Although this is not how we would like it to end I take comfort that you are no longer in pain.
Rest in Peace Ollie, you will be truly missed.
My heart goes out to Sally and Ollie's loved ones

First may I offer my deepest heartfelt condolences.
I remember the moment I joined this group and when I found out Ollie, like me was a FLT3. I was scared, yet he provided me the courage to continue on and battle the beast. His subjects were so spot on. He was not afraid to tell you the good with the bad, but he focused on my youth and the advances being made on our behalf.
I will miss him for sure.. We have grown so close to each other on this post and everyone cares deeply for the other.
I am 24 hours from transplant and will muster every ounce of energy I have and battle for Ollie's sake and for all those having gone before us. He was a courageous man. I am only sorry I did not have the pleasure of meeting him in person.
Peace,
Andrea
Sally, what a terrific support you have been to Ollie and what an example you have been for us on this site. As one who has lost a spouse, I found my family was a great support. Keep close to them. I also found myself wanting to share experiences and information with Clare. Ollie will continue to be with you. Welcome and cherish those opportunities.
Let us all be determined, as a tribute to Ollie, to keep this site as dynamic, helpful, informative, and supportive as it has been become under his leadership.
Love to all,
Jonathan
Keeping this website alive will indeed be our tribute to our fallen warrior, Ollie. He is in God's hands now and probably giving Him a run for His money! I will never forget his valor.

I have not been able to bring myself to post on this tread before today as I could not come to terms with the fact that AML came back for Ollie. It is the biggest fear for all of us in remission and it makes us face our own mortality. It scared me how quickly AML progresses.
Please accept my condolences.
Lisa
I am so very sorry to hear of Ollie's passsing. He fought the monster of AML with great courage and he persevered for quite some time. I lost my dad to AML last January 17th...I have not lost a spouse so I can't say I know exactly how you feel...but I do know the pain of losing someone to this terrible disease. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
Rest in peace, Ollie.
Theresa
I am grateful to have had his wisdom as I came on board to this group. As a Catholic, I pray for his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed.
I am never one to say goodbye, but only, until we meet again.
I hope thatbSally continues to look at these messages. I want up to know how much of a difference he made to ME.
By best,
Andrea
