I can't remember when I didn't lie. I think it is partly to protect myself (we moved a lot when I was a child, from Cape Town to Johannesburg then to London). This meant I kept getting new groups of people I needed to bond with. I am an only child so didn't have siblings to support me. I went with my parents to a lot of parties (just business meetings and with friends) and I felt more and more like an outsider. I have just had a horrible conversation with the man I love more than anything (even my cats!) in the world, my wonderful husband. It started with something stupid, his burrito.
