Hey, if you’d like to know a bit about myself my names Ritchie and I’m 27 and live in England. I haven’t always had wetting problems or bedwetting, in fact as a child I was very quick to gain control but all my problems began when I was 8 and collided with a car on my bike, or more accurately the car hit me. The driver was a girl who passed her test a week earlier and was playing with her radio when she hit me. The collision crushed my whole crotch area damaging amongst other things my pelvis and a length of my urethra. I had several operations trying to repair my urethra and needed a catheter for I don’t know how long until I was finally about to urinate normally again. However, I was left with some day incontinence and regular bedwetting. Things got worse as all the operations had left me with scarring and frequent strictures in my urethra which required more unpleasant things to clear it. When I was 20 the pain became excutiating as it felt like I was peeing razor blades with hardly anything coming out. To relieve everything I had a perineal urethrostomy, basically my urethral opening was relocated to same as that of a womans. It was supposed to be temporary but the relief I felt being able to pee easily, and the horrifying details of an operation to rebuild my urethra without any guarantees it would work or need further attention was just too much, especially after having already had so many operations so I decided to keep my urethral opening permanent. With a shortened urethra it does leave me, like women, susceptible to UTI’s, and yes, I do have to sit down to pee now, but I’ve had less issues since then than I ever had from the accident up until then. Incontinence is still an issues and I need pads, particularly for stress incontinence, and bedwetting is regular with most nights being wet. This is the hangover from the accident and operations but is something I just have to live with now. Things aren’t all bad though, as I’m blessed with a wonderful girlfriend of 5 years now, who knows all my issues, loves the fact I have to sit down to pee as we never argue about the toilet seat, and is fully supportive and helps me. Her only insistence is I wear a diaper/nappy to bed which is understandable as I just can’t guarantee or string enough nights together to the point I can persuade her that I don’t need them.
