Road Trip
My girlfriend loves traveling, and so do I, but I’m always apprehensive about it because of my problems with wetting so am always less receptive to it. Flying, particularly long haul, means I have to wear a nappy for the flight, and if we’re doing any physical activity (she enjoys hiking) means the discreet pads I normally can use during the day just aren’t enough so need to consider pull-ups to prevent leaks. She’s so understanding and supportive of my issues but I know she gets disappointed by my lack of enthusiasm so I took some advice from our support groups and decided to not let needing pads control me.
For the first time it was me to suggest a trip, and I’m so glad I took the advice as she’s made up with it. We’ve decided to go on a road trip to America (we’re from England), we’re going for 3 weeks, we’re going in Spring flying in and out of Los Angeles as she has a friend that lives there, it’s so nice to see her so excited because I suggested it. Not sure where we’ll be going yet as she’s working out a route but will update here when she’s decided.
I am still apprehensive, particularly for the long haul flights, but already it’s worth it.

Hi Ritchie, wow sounds like you guys are going to have a great vacation you must be really excited. I want to go on a road trip, I wish I was going!
Do you know what route your taking and what are you going to see. You must come to Louisiana it’s the best state in America! You’ll both love New Orleans.
Hey South, thanks for writing.
Kate’s planned a route but it might change a bit. We land in LA to stay with her friend for a couple of nights then we’re going up to San Francisco for a few nights (looking forward to seeing Alcatraz). After that we’re going to Oregon and then onto Seattle. A few nights later its then into Canada and I can’t remember where after that and she’s working late tonight so can’t ask her at the moment. I know Yellowstone’s on the agenda and I asked to see General Custers last stand when she said we would be near that but I don’t know what order that’s in. She does the driving which is just as well as I thought Seattle was up near New York so not sure where we would end up if I was driving lol.
Sorry, Louisiana is a bit too far away but we would love to visit New Orleans sometime.
I’m quite anxious about the flight, it’s long haul so I’ll need to wear a nappy for the flight but I’m not going to let this get in the way of enjoying the trip, especially for Kate.
Where in Canada will you be? We live in the Westernmost province of British Columbia. Probably you are going to Vancouver, but are you travelling through the Canadian Rockies to get to Yellowstone? Flying in nappies is no big deal. I've never had a problem with airport security and you won't need to bring a lot of supplies with you because the pharmacy/chemist shops are all over and very inexpensive and often open 24 hours a day. Walgreens & CVS are the most common in the US and Shopper's Drug Mart, Pharmasave, and London Drugs are the easiest to find in Canada. Enjoy your trip and fill us in on how things went when you get back.
Hey wetr, thank you for taking the time to read my journal and to comment on it.
I asked where we were going and she showed me on the map and your right, it is Vancouver. From Vancouver we’re then going to Bamff for a few nights which she said she’s been told is very beautiful, and then to Calgary. She was in Calgary for a few days a couple of years ago for a works meetings she was attending and she never had a chance to look around the city so wanted to take the opportunity when we’re there together. Then it’s back into America and Yellowstone, and General Custers last stand as we head back before flying home.
I’m really not looking forward to the flights again, I do get quite anxious having to wear nappies when I fly but it is what it is and I won’t let it stop us from traveling. Some of the drives are quite long so i’ll need to wear a nappy for some of them as well but that’s easier as it’s just me and her and it’s a lot more private than being in a plane and airport.
It’s nice to know supplies will be easy to get hold of and I’m sure I’ll have a lot of questions the nearer we get to going. Dates aren’t yet set as my girlfriend can’t book her time off work until the new year but it will be sometime in spring or early summer to make use of the longer days. I’ll certainly update our trip on here, the journals on this site are quite a nice touch to make use of.
Hi Ritchie, have Kate and you got your flight tickets to America yet, how long will you be staying?
Hey South, thanks for asking and I hadn’t forgotten.
The answers yes and no, Kate’s booked her time off so we will be flying out on June 4th and fly back on June 25th, but she hasn’t bought the tickets yet. She has so many air miles from her business flying she’s waiting to see if any come available for those dates so we can get her flight free, if they do then she’ll buy mine. She’s giving it until April and if still nothing then she’ll buy both of ours and save her miles for another time.
My controls deteriorated quite badly since Christmas and I’m trying to get some of it back, but I’m worried when we go I might still need to wear a nappy all the time so I did mention postponing it but she made it clear it’s not going to stop us doing things and we will be going. I know she’s right, but having to wear a nappy during the day now as well as at night is hard to deal with and I’m very apprehensive of the flight.
Still, I’m doing my kegals like mad and hopefully I’ll see some improvement by then, there’s still time for things to get a bit better.
Hi Ritchie, how are you now, is it any better? Has Kate bought your tickets yet?
Hi South, thanks for asking.
I am seeing an improvement in my day control now, my Kegals are finally making a difference and I’m really pleased that I only need a pull-up now, I’m hoping there’s a good chance I might get back to my discreet pads I was using before Christmas by the time we are due to fly out. Having said that, Kate’s got another works trip in early May and wants me to go with her so looking at possible flights then as well.
Kate has bought our tickets for our road trip now, unfortunately her airmiles weren’t flexible enough for the dates we needed so had to buy both of them and hopefully use her airmiles another day.
