  When my wife died 3 years ago, I found that the joy I had gotten from my hobbies and interests was severely diminished. Nothing was fun anymore.   This will be my third Christmas without my wife. My wife loved Christmas. When we lived in New York, we would spend Christmas eve with my family and then drive to New Jersey to spend Christmas day with her family.   February will be 3 years since my wife's death. Like many of us, I wonder if the pain ever really goes away. This morning I was watching a tribute concert to John Lennon. During the song Woman (which he wrote for Yoko Ono), the camera showed Yoko in the audience. The pain of someone who lost the person they love was written all over her face.   2 1/2 years after losing my wife, I'm finding the secret widowed people hide from friends and family. The secret is that it gets worse with time, not better. The deep grief I felt at the beginning doesn't happen quite as often anymore, but it doesn't go away. It's always just below the surface and it can rise up at any time.
