  Sometimes I get random thoughts about suicide or violence that seemingly appear out of nowhere. It's important to note that prior to my relationship with my ex-husband, I never had these. Two of my sisters were diagnosed with mental illnesses, so I was wondering if my violent thoughts are a symptom that I'm mentally unbalanced or that they are a symptom of PTSD.

  Nightmare about ex last night was especially troubling. Feel like I haven't slept at all.

  I had another nightmare about my ex-husband last night. I dreamed he was holding me down and sexually touching me as I screamed for him to please stop. Although there was no penetration, I was helpless to stop what he was doing. What's weird about this is that none of his abuse towards me was sexual. Although he was difficult to dissuade when he'd been drinking and sometimes I went along just to get him to stop bothering me so I could sleep. Most of the time it was completely consentual. This...

  I always get depressed around my birthday, Christmas and Valentine's day. I thought maybe it was because I'm single, but the other day I realized that every special occasion like that when I was still with my ex-husband, we had a fight or he just left and stayed out all night. I think never getting that reassurance that I was loved on special occasions, made me dread them.

  Not sure if I have PTSD or not. Was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship for ten years, now I've been out for five but we co-parent so I still have to maintain contact with my abuser. Sometimes I get scared that something will happen to the kids while in his care. I have nightmares about him.   So today I was browsing through social media and came upon a horrific article saying there was an ordinance in Missouri that punishes domestic violence victims for calling the police. So I read it and it said this woman was evicted from her home because there's a law stating that if you call the police over a certain number of times within a specified amount of the they can evict you from your home and make it so you can't move back for six months.   So we watched Thelma and Louise for this one class I'm in, and one of my classmates was discussing it with me and she said that the reason it was popular was that every woman over the age of 30 or who has kids has, at some point felt like running away.   Kids are at their dad's house today and I worked this morning, but now that I'm home and school work is finished I feel so alone. All my friends are spending the day with family. Is it normal for someone who experienced abuse in the past to be dependent on others for happiness? Sometimes when I have to be alone I feel fine, but other times I get so depressed.
