  So I am 39 years old and until a few weeks ago I was 2.5 years sober from alcohol. During that time I sucessfully weathered a lot of challenges to my sobriety and I grew mentally, physically, and spiritually. Then in February, my partner of 23 years revealed an emotional affair he'd had for the past three years.After this reveal he told me that he wanted to be separated, wanted nothing to do with me, didnt want our marriage, etc. He's also an alcoholic and he was not sober during the 2.5 years...

  I think I'm idealistic and naive but it genuinely hurts me to read some of the posts on here discussing the horrible things partners do to each other. I have to wonder - how is this real? How can people treat each other in these ways? Maybe I'm just so hurt from what I've been through in the last few months it retraumatizes me to read others' experiences? Especially from the point of view of the one leaving, cheating, or betraying.I've never cheated on my husband in 24 years. Not physically,...
