I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps.
I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting back.
Walking greatly improves my mental health too. I'm feeling less irritable and depressed after walking.
I want this to be a support thread for people who exercise and eat healthy so if you do any of that post here!

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

Happy to see you're feeling better Rizen
This is a great thread, Rizen, and I admire you for carrying on the thread as well as the exercise.
I've been trying to increase my activity level, too. Been taking my dog in the woods, up the steep hill and rocks. Not every day, but everything helps.
Today we have a hard, cold rain falling. I ran up and down my staircase 10 times. Took the dog with me ; ). She was confused.
I set up my exercise machine by the bedroom window.
I walked with my arm weights and did my situps today.
Did my work out today, went a few minutes longer and walked outside in the wind.
Rest well.
I walked 5.5 miles today.
My best tips for gradually slimming down...
1. Get or use SMALLER plates and bowls... makes it harder to over do it if the food won't fit ON the plate... no second helpings allowed, lol
2. Eat a small meal every 2 - 3 hours that is mostly fresh vegetables (1/2 of the meal), a portion of protein (1/4 of the meal), and a portion of carbohydrate (1/4 of the meal). Try to make sure the carbohydrate you choose is whole or "complex"... So that limits white flour, white rice but you can use wholemeal flour and brown rice... The fibrous outer slows down carbohydrate absorption and makes you FEEL fuller for longer as well as being much better for you anyway : )
3. Gradually wean yourself off having added sugar (sucrose) in your diet. For example, if you have sugar in your coffee cut back little by little... Your taste buds will adjust and your pancreas will DEFINITELY appreciate some time off from having to pump out insulin to mop up too much blood sugar arriving all at once. A person can usually only handle around 30gms of carbohydrate in one serve over a two hour period before the body just stores the excess carb, which includes sugar, as fat... mostly around the middle.
4. Swap to having fruit... apples, oranges etc... as your "sweet" treat. Bananas are really healthy BUT they do contain more than a 30g portion of relatively simple carbohydrate so... half of one... yum! A whole one... ooops! Definitely EAT fruit but
5. Drink... water or herbal tea... not juice. However, quite a few herbal teas are sweetened with stevia which may not be a good idea...Tthe sweet taste confuses the body into THINKING sugar is arriving... when it doesn't you can end up with a sharp drop in blood sugar, hypoglycemia. Basically fruit is good, it has vitamins, fibre...
I walked a mile with my arm weights and did my 30 situps this morning.
I did it. 3.5 miles @ 15 minutes keeping heart rate at 140 and two walks because I had to kick myself in the arse. I sure wish the next day we could remember how good it feels after we work out! LOL.
I'm also doing no carbs or added sugars (fake sugar is gross). Mostly veggies and no sugar added fruit. Lots of water! I think making juice is good for you in moderation, I drink 6oz home made with blueberries, blackberries, pears and peaches. Sometimes cranberries, kiwi. Awesome antioxidants of all kinds.
Good job Rizen.
