I had hopes of becoming a serious athlete in a certain event.
I knew I was starting late I had no support. I knew I was going to have to train harder than the other girls and I had a willingness to do whatever it took.
Of course from the abuse I came from any other challenge seem peanuts....So I did give it my best shot for about two years in the sport of gymnastics. I became good. Good enough to win a first place at my high school in Texas.....
Then my family an 'abusive' sister's abuse was so severe I had to run again leaving everything I had work so hard for.
I could take a rigorous training sometimes in pain, blisters from the uneven bars wide open but I could not take my sisters constant emotional abuse.
So I ran. But that discipline to exercise even in pain just stayed with me. And it remained through my life. I have entered in several endurance sports events and finished them even if I had crying spells these were not due to the exercise but due to my PTSD that even the exercise induced endorphins can sooth.
However. I still exercise however I feel......Sometimes crying.
It helps to do it to music. Whether is jogging slow lifting weight but light weight....
I find if I strain myself too much its stresses me and sometimes triggers me. But things like Pilates is too slow for me.....What works best is a cardio/endurance activity done at a pace where if you wanted you could keep a conversation going.
