I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps.
I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting back.
Walking greatly improves my mental health too. I'm feeling less irritable and depressed after walking.
I want this to be a support thread for people who exercise and eat healthy so if you do any of that post here!

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

It's three up here, if you feel like a drive.
Of course, by the time you go there, it would be about -15F, or worse, with wind chill.
I shoveled, but ... no way I was walking. I bundled up, later, for a much needed grocery trip, but ... my heart's been going nuts ... causing dizziness and shortness of breath.
I pushed through that, brushed off the car, and made it all the way to the grocery store ... on ice-covered roads ... got IN the store, and THEN realized I had left my wallet and money at home.
Sometimes ... as anxiety-provoking as it really can be ... we were just meant to stay home ;-)
Stay warm, Rizen !!
I walked a mile on my mom's treadmill.
I had to start slow. I started just standing or doing wall sits for seconds at a time. But I am not one to allow myself to not move. And there is SO MUCH that needs to be done. So with someone with me, I just got moving again.
It is not easy. A 20 minute trip through Walmart yesterday left me with a shirt drenched in sweat. BUT I am getting where just everyday movements are gettign easier. I can stand up again without yelping in pain.
off to go move horses...
Sorry you're in a lot of pain yadlim :(
@Lilly good for you :)
I walked 2.8 miles tonight. It's cold our but I wore 2 layers of pants and a heavy coat.
Then I backed the SUV to hitch the trailer.. that sounds odd, but it hurts. My back does not bend like it used to, and rotating my torso to back up to exactly match up the ball and hitch is agony. I was having issues with it, and even though my daughter was ground directing me, I went back and forth for over half an hour. We gave up and switched. That put me standing at the front of the trailer, leaning down to make sure that the ball was in just the right place (this trailer is so hard to hitch!!). It was agony, but we finally got it hitched.
Then it was ground guide my daughter as she drove out of the parking area. Once the trailer was pulled around, we walked back to the other side of the property and pulled the horses.
I got less than a quarter of the way from the horse pasture to the trailer and just crumpled to the ground. Luckily I have a really good horse and he just nudged me once and started munching on some grass. Someone else came and got my horse, no one likes me to have a horse when I am curled up on the ground desperately trying to get air into my lungs. Did I mention I have a really good horse??
By the time I got up and managed to walk to the SUV, the horses were loaded and the safety checks done. I just curled up in the passenger seat, took my pain killers, turned on my heated seat, and tried to breath. We were an hour down the road and almost to the new stable before I noted where we were.
At the new stable, I had to walk around to find someone to show me where to put the horse trailer. That was a good 200 yards of walking there. Then my daughter took both horses to their new pasture while I parked the trailer. My daughter hauls it fine, but she can't back a straight line with a trailer to save her life.
That should have been enough movement for one day... but I just could not sit. A couple hours later found me packing. I got three large bins packed before my back once again just stopped holding me up.
That was twice in one day I pushed my spine with crushed vertebrae until it just stopped working.
Sigh. I have to be very careful not to do that again.
I was going to walk to my mom's place but it's bitter cold tonight so I only walked a mile and headed back.
I parked the SUV and walked the 100 yards to where my horses are in their pasture, pulled my horse, and walked back to the barn. There I got out the grooming box, pulled off his blanket, washed his tail, and spent another 60 minutes trying to get his tail brushed though. I got about half way through it.
Then it was put everything away, reblanket my horse, sweep the barn, and walked him back out to his pasture. All told, I was standing/walking for just over 90 minutes, though I did spend about 30 of that at least leaning against a wall. I have not been up and moving that much is close to a year!!
Now if I can just get some sleep...
For me, I got to the gym and did the treadmill again. Still walking, hoping to get strong enough to walk without that cane.....................
This is such an awesome and important post. I read an article about how people with serious mental illnesses (does PTSD fall into that category?) lose 20 years of life expectancy due to sedentary lifestyles among other things, so this business of exercising is really important.
Now that I'm back from vacation I have to get back to my efforts to eat healthier and get more exercise. This post really inspires me!
I walked to the store and back. Then I walked to my mom's house and brought her some orange juice. She's still very sick (nothing life threatening). That's about 3 miles.
