Good to take the alternative if it's too hot, Secouya. Me, I turned in my final semester grades by the 10am deadline today for the last time, and I'm a little tuckered out. I might take a day off from walking and catch up with it tomorrow.

In 7 days I'll be walking in Mexico!

Really physically had to drag myself on my walk last night, my retirement week had been great but busy and I was TGIF tired. It paid off, though, I lost a couple of pounds and maintained my weight loss for another week. The real benefit was mental, though, most of all. Hoping to establish a walking route in my new neighborhood in Mexico when I move there next week.

Muji, you will make it to Mexico. Will you live close to the ocean? I have only been to a few places in Mexico and loved the white sand beaches and clear blue water. I remember staying in the bungalows next to Chichen Itza. My husband ran up the steps of El Castillo and this woman standing next to me said look at that guy, he’s like a mountain goat running up those steps. We laughed when I said, he is a mountain goat, he is my husband, he works on high rises so he has no fear of heights.

I’m happy to hear you plan on keeping up your walking. I walked Several miles Friday. I am going to try to get a walk in Sunday. I am having oral surgery on Monday and doubt I will be walking for a few days after.

I did a walk today, too, Secouya! Perfect day for it, too.

My city of San Cristobal, Chiapas is 7,000 feet up in the mountains. But it is a 3 hour drive down to the Pacific Ocean. There's no resort like Cancun there, which is great. There's a little fishing village called Puerto Arista that I'm told I'd love.

I fly out Wed a.m. first thing, so I probably won't sleep the night before because I'll be too excited. I'm a foreigner there, of course. But I grew up there doing elementary school in Mexico before moving to Uruguay to graduate high school there, So there's a little boy inside me that's like the movie E.T. about going home again after all these years. My Mexican mom and dad Lupe and Pepe were a childless couple next door there who took me in when my parents left me on the street to go do their missions work.

But the setting still reminds me of when I was a kid and they taught me to ride a bike, I learned to swim, and since we had no tv they had me to their house every week to watch Batman.

Haven't walked yet today, but it's a perfect day for it so I'll be doing that next after I'm done writing here. I hope the spring weather's as good for walking where y'all live.

Hi Muji, I did not walk today because of surgery, but maybe tomorrow if it’s nice I will try to get out for a bit. You must be so excited. I will pray that things go well with your appt and that you have a safe trip to Mexico.

I've been in Mexico a day and a half now and have already done a HUGE amount of fun walking. Just as I thought, the city's more walkable here than back where I live in the US. I'm loving the walking. This is gonna be good for keeping my exercise going to hold my weight down. :-)

Went to walk today but I got caught in the rainstorm of my lifetime. Noah himself would have freaked out about hard it rained. I found out that my new mountain Mexican home may have no seasons as to temperature, as at 7k feet it's 70 degrees year round, but it does have 2 precipitation seasons. Guess which one we're in now? The rainy season. They should go ahead and call it the monsoon season like they do in Asia. I got wet to the bone, I had to go home and change. Live and learn, huh?

Hope y'all are well with the walking. Here in Mexico I am. I've only been here less than a week but already today I had to tighten my belt a loop. That's a good sign that I'll keep protecting my 110 pound weight loss surgery results. Now it's old age dentistry, too. I need 3 implants and a crown that I couldn't afford in the US even with my college instructor's job benefits. Here it's half price, and even then it's taking my savings. But we started today, painful as it was both to mouth and wallet. It's going to take 5 appointments from now until mid June, but it goes along with walking wellness, so I'm going to hang in there.

Muji, hang in there. Glad you made it to Mexico safely. I had extraction surgery and bone graft last week. My stitches opened up Sunday while rinsing and I had to have new stitches put in today. My mouth is throbbing, just took a pain killer. I will have implant surgery in 4-6 months after the graft heals. I am going to spread the cost over this year and next year to get the most out of my insurance. Luckily I have dual coverage, but I still will have out of pocket costs. I walked over the weekend, but not today and I have an epidural Wednesday to help relieve my back pain so I can walk easier.Hope your enjoying your new environment.

Yeah, me, too, it's been a while since we heard from Rizen, Secouya. I'd like to know that his mom hasn't had any serious health episode. Fingers crossed that we hear from him soon.

As for your surgery-ouch. I'm having 3 dental implants here (just had a dental appointment yesterday). Yours sounds more serious than that. Then the back pain. I've got some of that too, with 2 herniated discs, but since losing a lot of weight I can at least walk without a cane. If you need an epidural, you're not as lucky. I'm really sorry about that.

I'm loving my new environment. Just loving it. I've made some good Mexican friends over the past 5 years I've been visiting here, and now that I'm here for good they're really helping me settle in.

As for walking, San Cristobal is a city crossed by 2 big pedestrian walkways, each 20 blocks long. Each is full of people walking, great bars, great restaurants, stores--you name it. So I walk one every day. I've only been here since last Thursday, and already I've had to right my belt a loop, so it's working for me.

I've been okay and my mom's doing okay too. I walked 2 miles most days except the last four when I had to take a break to heal a sore spot where my pants rubbed. But I was back to walking 2.1 miles today.

Thanks for checking in and letting us know that you and your mom are ok, rizen. So glad. That sore spot thing happened to me walking, too; powder helped. It's good to hear you're back to walking. I had a super long evening walk with a Mexican friend here--so long that I bought a cane, which was fine. I passed some pre-pandemic places I used to know. My favorite breakfast place, donut shop, and coffee place all went bust during the past pandemic year. But my favorite bakery was still going, so I'll walk there again for a pastry tomorrow.
