Hidradenitis Suppurativa Support Group
Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NIE-tis sup-yoo-ruh-TIE-vuh) is rare, long-term skin condition that features small, painful lumps under the skin. The disease manifests as clusters of chronic abscesses or boils, sometimes as large as baseballs, that are extremely painful to the touch and may persist for years with occasional to frequent periods of inflammation,...
The second week was sheer agony with some previously inflamed lesions that got absolutely huge! I sort of was expecting it though so I kept on with the capsules. When they opened up, the relief was tremendous again.
Around the middle of the 3rd week, it seemed like it wasn't working any more and the pain level was back up. I decided that some areas must be infected. I had a prescription for antibiotics that the last dermatologist had given me so I started taking that along with the turmeric capsules. After about 3 days, the sites started seeping more then healing. I'll probably stop the antibiotics in a couple of weeks and then just continue taking the turmeric. (I won't EVER stop taking that!)
Not sure of your sources. There is no known cause and there is no know cure for HS. There are many theories out there, however, none have been proven. A variety of gastro issues have been identified as related, but none have been proven. In reading the clinical trials and case studies, thus far, several conditions have been identified as exacerbaters, Diabetes, obesity, IBS, Crones, smoking, etc. The information to date at least suggests that some dietary things can also trigger a flare up.
In reviewing those studies and reports there are several common denominators, unfortunately they are not well understood and many have not been thoroughly investigated.
The other thing that is clearly known is that there has not been an identifiable treatment. Numerous Clinical Studies have tried a variety of things, the results of which at best, have suggested that in some cases the treatment was reasonably effective for some, however, not for all participants. In other words, what works for some does not work for others.
Of proximately 60 people who I speak to frequently, nearly all have reported some good results with the Zinc and turmeric in combination. Result vary from very mild improvement to near remission like improvements. I am aware of 5 individuals who reported no change.
There are a number of women who have reported improvements with the use of the birth control pill Yaz, (drosperenone) Yet for some there is no improvement and in some cases the HS became worse.
There are couple of genetics studies under way. While this is a great thing, it could take years to identify a single molecule in the genome that may or may not be responsible.
Having said all that.... one of the things I have noted in several studies is that there appears to be an Androgen/Hormone component to the disease. While noted in several of the reports, there does not seem to be much effort in identifying what that might be. While noted in the studies, most HS folks i talk to have never had their doctors order up an Androgen/Hormone study. It is one of the reasons I encourage HS patients to have one done.
Who know what we might find. Too much estrogen, DHEA, FHG.... not enough... we simply do not know.
So try and remember, what you will see out there now is just theory and hypothesis, hopefully soon someone will make a connection that will work. In the mean time, know that you are not alone. Groups like HS-USA and HSF are pushing the limits daily trying to find an answer.
Peace

Let the science do their job, I am, as an unprofessional, confused with any deeper research.
I am agreed with the theory related with genomes and hormones. I've persuaded doctors that my wounds react on stress, different weather and psychological conditions, etc., but, unfortunately, I always disapprove misunderstanding.
Even I'm in the worst HS degree, I have strong optimism and believe in complete recovery.
My opinion about HS is there is no rule to follow. It is completely irrelevant what is the skin color, sex, are you thin or fat...
Is there recorded any case of healing?
I found an info about disease withdrew in the case of the women in menopause. It sounds so discouraging due to fact that I am male. I am joking, of course :)))

There are several folks using the Zinc and Turmeric. I am not aware of any complications with other medications. I had my gall bladder removed in June. I have not noticed any problems since. I am aware that Turmeric may in high dosage thin the blood a bit. However, I have not heard of anyone having problems with it. I would suggest that you talk with your MD about using turmeric. My surgeon was told about my taking 500mg ot turmeric daily. He did not seem concerned.
