I looked at the group Bobbie mentioned. It seems to suggest it is going to happen but there doesn't seem to be an official post by someone in DS organisation to head it up.

The job description is a bit vague, but if it's meeter and greeter, plus reporting trouble to DS admin that might not be so bad. The title "Community Leader" in that case is a bad one (it's a bad one anyway..how can you lead a community like ours to? war with the despression board?). Moderator isn't so good either, maybe Community Facilitator.

Anyway giving a bipolar member the power to ban directly might not be so hot an idea. Having someone who is unbiased, ie not bipolar won't work either.

My question is, why are DS thinking of doing this?

i agree curious - my point exactly. not good for a beeper to have that, not good for a non-beeper to try to run a board for beepers.

i think the reason its happeneing is tha tpeople like uniformity - well, certainly database-type people. since all these other groups have this funtion, all groups should - that's the logic.

i think that's flawed - yeah, i think CLs are good ideas for groups i've seen them implemented in - Depr, Alcoholics, etc. but not alll - there ought to be a sense of appropriateness.

perhaps some of us beepers ought to log onto this DS admin board & let them know what we think?

Well I sent PaulDS the other day the suicidal post that no one paid any attention to and the ones that did slagged it off.....that could have something to do with it.

There are CL's in more groups than just depression. A CL is basically like a referee.

My thoughts are mixed on it. The CL would have to be someone who everyone would agree upon and would have to have sound judgement and be able to look at things with a unbiased view.

However having said that, a CL (or two) here would probably be more beneficial than negative. I have seen this board get pretty fired up at times.

I don't quite understand how a CL or whatever is going to be able to force us to make helpful, sensitive, caring replies to a suicidal post...?
I'm just going to keep repeating the fact that I've been helped many times by the wonderful people here (not licking arses, it's just fucking true) and that suicidal posts aren't ignored, as far as I'm aware. And even if they are - what can be done about it? Nothing.

I think people here need to learn to handle things on their own. If you don;t like something someone is saying, ignore it. Move on. Unlike real life, we can do that here. I am opposed to the idea of having a "leader". I hate to think of this turning into a place where I have to censor myself, which is all these moderator type things lead to. Just handle shit on your own, its not that hard. All this needless fighting as of late is so silly. If people don;t feed into it, it disappears. We don;t need someone coming in and deleting those posts for us or doing any other work for us.

Kendroid...I agree! I don't know that I would be soo harsh about it...lol...but I do agree with what you are saying. We all just need to deal with things on our own. If we don't like something than we have the choice to ignore it.

People on here tend to be in different stages at different times, and what one talks about may not be what you need to talk about at the time...so like Kendroid said, discard it and move on to something you want to read or participate in. I don't think we need someone to dictate or deem what is acceptable or not.

As the group Bobbie pointed us towards (I'm now a member so you can see it in my community listings is for all DS.

This isn't a result of the suicide post or the other issues we have here.

I think such is the nature of our illness that the only permanently reasonable person would be someone who should not be a member here, ie even the medicated BPs have their moments.

If DS have decided this is what they want, then it will happen.

As I understood it, the groups with CL's requested them.

If there are no requests for a CL here, there won't be a CL appointed here. A CL would only be appointed if there were multiple requests from different members.

I must point out that my logic may be flawed as I do not know how the politics of how it works but I am almost sure that there would have to be multiple requests for a CL from different members (not just one or two members putting in multiple requests).

Yes, and I suggested there be a CL here to PaulDS and showed him the thread that could have been avoided.....so if a CL comes you all can blame me....

I can't wait....and if people leave because a CL comes then so be it. But this drama filled forum can use all the drama removed. I swear everyone lives off of all of the drama here. It needs to end. I am awaiting the time when the drama will end and a CL will reign. Since my first nomination declined, I nominated another one and sent them an email suggesting that they apply. Yee Haw!
