Beating Trich Community Group
You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.

Hi, My name is Sam and I'm new to this group. I am 23 and have had trich since I was 12. Over the years I have tried many times to stop, however it's only this past year that I have started to research ways of stopping, and have been really determined to do it. I plan on doing so with a combination of understanding, will-power, exercise, trying the John Kender diet, and seeing a therapist. I love designing, illustrating, cooking, extreme sports, exercising, seeing live music and reading. I would love to provide others with encouragement, and maybe get some support when I fall.

SO
NAUGHTY!
That is not allowed behaviour!
But yes it's day 21, and I get a reward! My therapist suggested a piece of clothing (I think he can tell by what I wear that I enjoy clothes). I am a thrifty shopper. He also made me promise that if I "crack" (his words not mine) that I don't spiral out of control.. I think I'm pretty good at not being hard on myself when I slip.. but maybe not as good as I think. Perhaps the count isn't so much the best solution.. I don't know, I"m rambling now. I really think a big yearly calendar would come in handy here, a sticker chart like Manda uses. So say, If I got to two months pull free then pulled a hair or two, I might start my count over, but if I continued to be pull free the next few days, I would see that it wasn't such a big deal that little slip, especially if surrounded by so many successful days... And maybe one hair a month is ok. Not encourage, but ok. So maybe if after one month I pull a hair, I don't start my count over. There's got to be a balance between being so harsh and being lax..
If anyone read that above tangled mess, you're a champ.
I'm a big fan of the calendar thing, I used to do it in Excel and it's such a great way to actually see all the good days you've had and not to mope about one bad day.. I think I'll do that again, and a calendar is better than an Excel sheet cause it's visible at all times and works more encouraging :)
and please, ramble away, I do it all the time :p
Woo 3 weeks pf! And two hrs til I'm 22 days pf. My perfick boy bought me flowers as a present and cooked me a very lovely dinner. And then I bought 2 dresses. Consider myself rewarded!
Still finding it hard and am allowing myself to play more. I am going to keep fighting that though!
Play with barrier balls, stress bracelets, keep your hands busy, away from those beautiful tresses!
Hugs!
Playing with your hair is tricky, maybe wear some noisy bracelets to remind you each time your hand is up there.. :)
GOO SAM you're doing awesome!!
Congrats on 22 days, that is amazing! Keep on going. You can do it.
Watch that playing!! Hands down. Don't tempt yourself. Don't engage in "the behavior" break the link, etc. etc you know the drill.
Kudos to your supportive fiance.
HUGS
Unfortunately gotta admit defeat and start my count over. Have been pulling.. the ones that come out easy and without barely a tug, but still.
I'm starting from 4:45pm, let's go! I have to beat 3 weeks, ha :) I honestly think I need to de-stress a little more. The pressure was building and building and I caved..
All good, I need to be stronger this time.
Bandaids.
You've got this! You can do this, you can, you can!
Go for it!
I'm going to exercise more this week too.
Thanks for the support you two!
