Beating Trich Community Group
You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.
Thanks for your confidence in me!
I will not let it get me down for the rest of tonight. There will be no repeat of last night!
Maybe this is like working to a deadline. You don't get really serious about it until you don't think you have enough time, or in the case of trich, start seeing bald spots. It is human nature, I guess.
For me, I feel like this is my last stand. Otherwise, I fear that I'll be permanently bald on top at 65, and a person can still be hot at 65, especially in LA, (in fact, it is almost a requirement) so we wouldn't want to compromise that. Seriously, though, that is what keeps me going.
I used to hate seeing all those hairs around my desk & by the bed. I'd scoop them up & hide them in my bathroom trash, which my husband doesn't empty. When I was sitting in for my friend last year at work & I caved in to pressure, I'd spend the end of the day scooping the hairs up from around her desk, even though she knows about the trich.
Don't beat yourself up. You have all your tools at hand, motivation in place. Keeo reading that fabulous list of yours. xoxo
I found that wearing a bracelet or ring that I could play with helped when I was with people.
Also, have you tried to knit? I can't remember. I know, you're young & I never would have been interested at your age, but the knitting world is totally different and cool now. Even if you just knit garter stitch scarves in acrylic, it keeps your hands busy & you don't have to look at what you are doing. Check out www.ravelry.com for inspiration. I have to tell you, I have learned a lot about colour through knitting.
One of the things I'm learning in cognitive behavior therapy is how to change the process of pattern (another word for habit), and it's giving me the tingling sensations that I pull for, so I'm sitting on the hands when they are not typing, or keeping active.
You can do this!
Hugs!
I pulled one more last night. Same ole same ole; wasn't playing, it wasn't intentional, came out easily, I questioned if it was attached.
Good so far today, 3:25. Fingers crossed I don't absentmindedly pull, it's super annoying!! Especially when I put all the effort in by resisting playing with my hair. Maybe now I'm getting so irritated, I might be even more aware.
I absentmindedly twiddled a hair today - it came out but there was no root and it was very thin - think it may have broken or just been weak - but am still annoyed with myself.
You are a star thats what you are! :)
