My names shipley. I’m a 29 year old man who has had a great deal of experience with anxiety as my mother suffered from it when I was younger. I grew up in a somewhat abusive household. My step father was a great dad but a terrible husband. He would routinely beat my mother while taking me on little trips and surprises. I left when I was 13 and did not return until I was 21 when I stood up to him during one of their fights and accidentally broke 2 of his ribs. My mother was diagnosed with dimentia shortly after and does not know who I am so simply put I’ve always been traveling and taking care of myself. To that end I have control. I have a great job and a decent life but within the past 5 years my anxiety from my upbringing as well as the departure of my only real relationship which spanned 6 years after her best friends suicide brought on from the jealousy that they would never be together as long as my partner and I were together has gotten to the point that I feel almost crippled. My self esteem is shot. I find it difficult to make deep relationships anymore and my anxiety has begun to show itself in physical ways making my bowel movements inconstant with no explanation and the constant fear of something greater and more serious that may kill me. I joined this group because I’m tired of looking back and trying to bury sadness and worry with alcohol and cigarettes. I’m taking steps to be my own person again and I just feel left behind everyone and for the first time I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be doing. I hope connecting with others dealing with these issues and questions will help reassure my faith that all will be alright and possibly help me find greater direction. Thank you for your time
