You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.
congrats on day 10 you superstar. That is amazing. Realy!! I'm struggling just with day one. blah. Im following your lead!! since we both stopped before then.... everything fell apart. lol. You are doing so well.
CONGRATS!!
hugs
Alex, I've been trying tonbuild up a pull free streak since AUGUST!!!!! The biggest of streak I've had since then was 14 days. I also made it to 7 days once, and 6 days another time. The other streaks were one and sometimes 2 days long. It took me a while.
11 days pull free!!!! I can be pull free today :)
It really is hard not to touch your hair at all, but I'm trying really hard not to. Those stupid little kinky hairs are just sooooo tempting once I've touched 'em.
So I'm starting over. I mean who am I helping by lying to myself and you guys?
Bleh.
Day one tomorrow. So, to be clear to myself and you, my new rule is:
~~~~~If the hair came out due to TUGGING/PULLING even EVER SO SLIGHTLY and I FELT THE HAIR COME OUT AT ALL, then THAT'S A PULL.
But if it comes out when I was just running my fingers over the length of it, and not applying pressure, that does not count. And if it comes out accidentally when it gets stuck on a finger (doesn't happen often at all) then that doesn't count either~~~~~~~~
I'd love to know how strict you guys are, please share with me your rules/cut-off points.
For me, from the start of the PFaTon I decided that if I was absentmindedly playing with my hair and it came out I was NOT going to count that. I give my self a couple/few of those per day. My reasoning is that it is soooo much better than before I came to DS and actually stopped pulling, if I even somehow needed those few then so be it. For me that basically IS pull free.
I reset when I pull from stress, annoyance or anger. The past month or so I've done that probably every few days. When I do it I'm like, CRAP, why was that my first response to that emotion? So yeah, the guilt and for me the pleasure of pulling and playing with the hair/root determines if it was a pull.
So we're all a work in progress, and we're certainly NOT douchy!
But at least came to a conclusion. 100% honesty to you and me from now on.
Day one is going well :)
I'm trying to be extremely strict with myself. If a hair comes out because I was letting myself play, then I'm counting it, because I'm trying not to touch my hair at all except when washing it. (Or if it's truly an accident, like it gets stuck in a cheap barrette or something, I don't count it.) Later on in my pull-free-a-thon, I might reevaluate and decide that it's OK to play with my hair again, and at that point, I like your criteria that you put inside these things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only thing I can do is not touch my hair. Easier said than done but here goes.
