  I scratch when I self harm, and approximately 2 weeks ago I scratched my arm up so awfully and was in agony for at least 3 hours. At the time it was an awful experience, but it was sobering. It made me really realise what I was doing to myself, and the pain it caused. Since then, I haven't relapsed and everytime I feel tempted to, I remember how painful it was at the time. I know this sounds bad, but I don't harm because of the pain. I'm not entirely sure why I do it, but I dislike the pain....
