Kate, you need to kick that bitch out on her ass. Maybe then she'll learn to grow the fuck up. I wouldn't put up with that nonsense. Also, you may want to look into baby led weaning. Poly and I are both going that route, and it really makes a lot of sense. It skips over the cereal thing altogether, and allows them to go at their own pace as far as learning how to eat. There are a lot of good fb groups for it that can answer a lot of questions. At this point, I'm not even gonna worry about buying the book, since I've pretty much gotten all the info I need from a couple of websites and those fb groups. It's actually a lot easier, though maybe a bit messier, than the traditional method of feeding. The only thing I'll really have to adjust is leaving out the salt when I cook, but other than that, when he's ready he'll just be eating whatever we are.
We often keep Prescott up past his "normal" bedtime on the weekends, because we are out doing stuff. He sometimes gets cranky, but will usually sleep in his car seat or wherever we can put him while we're out. When we get home, we'll give him a couple of ounces in a bottle and he'll go right back to sleep. Though this weekend, he did keep waking up after being out a little later. He didn't finally get to sleep until 11 that night. But then he slept til 7, and after that morning bottle, went back to sleep until 11. So he worked it out. Yesterday we went to the track for Father's Day. (I guess I should specify we went to Churchill Downs for horse racing. Around here, when you say "the track" everyone just knows what you mean. lol) It was fun except for the fact that the AC was out in the area we were in, so it got pretty fucking hot in there. Prescott started out in an outfit that matched Kevin's (so friggin cute), but his shoes and pants quickly came off, because he was so hot. Kevin kept taking him up to the front of the room where the AC was working and just standing there under the vent to cool them both off. But other than being hot, Prescott was so good. People kept asking if he ever cried! lol I assured them he did, but usually only when hungry or tired. He took a decent nap in his carseat while we were there, which surprised me. I figured a little cat nap is all we'd get out of him, but he probably slept for 1 1/2-2 hrs. He got kinda cranky once we were home last night, but it only lasted about an hour, and he was asleep by 930. I figured, surely, since I had to work today, that he'd be up in the middle of the night, but he slept til 615 today! I actually thought I was gonna have to wake him up to feed him before we left. I imagine he was just worn out from yesterday. He'll probably sleep a lot today with his Granny, too.
Poly, I'm so sorry about your hand! That totally blows. I can hardly function when I break a nail!! lol Hope you get it taken care of quickly.
Growth spurts are the only time I'm happy that I'm not breastfeeding. That kid will eat every hour!! Luckily, he doesn't wake much during the night during them, but it's a full time job to feed him during the day. I'm glad to hand him over to Kevin when he gets home from work on those days.
I hope work went well today, Kate. Let us know how you held up. :)
I've shed my tears and think I'm doing better w/ the whole effed up scenario. gggrrrrrr
Poly- I'm so sorry to hear about your hand :( That completely sucks. I am hoping everything goes well with surgery and that recovery is as quick as possible!
Kate- Hope your first day back to work went as smoothly as possible! I know you probably missed your little girl like crazy!
Brenna had her 6 month checkup on June 5th- I've gotten behind on posting. She weight 14 lbs and 14oz and is 27 inches long :) Basically, she's a string bean. We are still nursing- everything is going so well so far! She's a happy little girl! She has her bottom two teeth and it looks like the top two are trying to come through as well! She seems to be going through a growth spurt- a little fussier then usual and wants to nurse all the time- luckily, she's still sleeping through the night. Today will be her last day at THIS daycare. We've had a couple instances that made us very unhappy and untrusting- falling out of a bouncy seat, ear getting clipped in a bib, toys thrown at her by other children. It's all too much for me to handle. I really wish I could quit my job and stay with her. Anyway, we have the summer to figure things out. My mother is a teacher and my mother-in-law works is a school nurse so she will be alternating between the two!
I worked 2 days this week back to back ...rob said she did pretty good for him..only 1 meltdown that lasted about a half hour....altho he let her fall asleep early both nights so i got home at 930pm and she was sleeping but didnt have her jammies on because she fell asleep before he got them on so i had to get her up both times to put jammies on...that pretty much annoyed me but whatever...i worked tuesday and wednesday...i could tell she missed me...eventho i had nursed her while i was home from work those days...it was different on thursday morning once she was alert and really saw me she nursed for over an hour..i think she just wanted to be close to me..
I got out our extra pack n play and set it up in our bedroom because I am still not ready for her to go to her own room yet because im just not lol....yesterday morning i woke up and looked in the bassinet and her face was pressed up against the side of the bassinet which is all fabric..i panicked and pulled her away from it quick and i was like "yup we are done w the bassinet" all i could think about was her suffocating....was pretty scary! so she will be sleeping in the pack n play which is good because now she has to rely on staying asleep after i put her in there (the bassinet rocked so i would rock it to make sure she was really asleep ...the crib doesnt rock so she needs to get used to being still)
Poly: any updates from surgery? i hope it went well!!
I've been meaning to ask you guys about something. Prescott seems to be very tense, like all the time. He always seems to be straining, like he's trying to poop, only it's even when he's not pooping. It's like that's just the way he is. He's always contracting his abs, like he's trying to do crunches, and he still has his hands in tight fists most of the time. The only time he seems to relax is when he's sleeping, and even then he still tenses up in his sleep. Is this something any of you have experienced with your LO, or even heard of? Just wondering if this is just his personality, or if it's something I need to try and correct somehow. TIA
Kate- I always panicked too. Everyone reassures me that as long as she could move her head, she'd be fine. But, at that age, and hearing all the horror stories, I always freaked. Do you guys use bumpers in the crib or are you planning on it?
Kevsgirl- Brenna is so funny now that she's rolling around like crazy. I find her in all different positions all over the crib and never how I put her to bed in the first place! It's amusing. She also prefers to sleep on her belly- I always put her to bed on her back and she flips herself over and sucks her thumb. The past few nights, she's been wired at night. I end up putting her to bed awake and she talks to herself before falling asleep. I haven't noticed Brenna being tense but I remember her hands were clenched in fists for awhile- I can't remember around what age that changed. I'd just mention at his next appt but I doubt it's anything to worry about!
it's hard not being able 2 play with him much, being 1 handed really sucks. hopefully my healing time will pass quickly.
