So I usually try to find a spot to nurse the baby that is out of the way and gives me lots of space and I never thought I would be this person.... but I definitely nursed Samuel while finishing shopping at a local consignment store today. Bigger DS was having an emotional meltdown and we needed to get moving so I pulled out my cover and nursed him as we finished up. Don't think anyone really noticed, but I did get a funny look from a dad pushing a stroller...but not sure if it was bc of the nursing or DS melting down :)
I worry about Trey because he is SO quiet and sleeps for hours on end at this point. I like when he makes a little noise or moves around. But I can also sympathize when they make a weird noise and you wonder if something is wrong. The other night he started choking a little, must have been spit up or something, and I ran over there but by the time I got to him he had settled down and was breathing normal. A pretty good friend of mine lost her grandson to SIDs back in Nov and so that is ALWAYS on my mind when I don't hear anything when Trey is sleeping.
Anyone had their 2 month appt yet?? I think they said that it's typical to get a TDaP vax? Are there any others? How did your babies handle them?
Sleeping is still a struggle for me- luckily she's a sound sleeper. I normally can pop in her room to check on her throughout the night if I'm more worried. I still have SIDs in the back of my mind but I'm slowly losing that fear.
Shots have been pretty good for Brenna so far. Our pediatrician actually splits up the shots between visits. So, although, she gets shots each time and we go every month for the first year, she's never had more then 2 shots at one appointment. She cries as it's happening but is fine afterwards. Thankfully, no swelling or fevers so far. It helps if you can nurse them while they do the shots or shortly thereafter. It actually helps dull the pain :)
We had our newborn photo session lastnight and it was horrible....my poor sweet girl pretty much cried the entire time...it was chilly in the studio and I had to nurse her several times but I felt rushed so she wasnt eating well for me and my husband was stressed out (he cant stand to see either one of us cry lol) so idk how the photos will turn out. My birthday is this month and I told my hubby that I want a GOOD camera so I can take pictures of her myself instead of spending hundreds of dollars in a cold studio while my baby cries thru all the photos....I am not sure if he willl get it or not because I always ask for expensive stuff and then never use it lol but i will def. use an awesome camera to catch all the photos of her that I want...i told him to ask his and my parents to pitch in so its not so much money leaving our bank account lol.
As far as vaccines, I was told if you are nursing that it's really helpful to nurse baby while they are giving the shots or directly after to help soothe baby. they also have "shot blockers" u can buy on amazon that they use while giving shots and I was told they work pretty well.
Well I must shower quick before baby wants to eat and then I am going to take her to my MILs work to meet the ladies who work with her!
I made it through two shifts at work...and had melt downs both days before getting to work. Once I'm at work I'm pretty much ok...it's the anxiety of getting there that sucks. I think I am having postpartum anxiety or depression. I'm having such a hard time sleeping etc.... So I'm going to try to see my doc today or Tuesday. I decided to take two more days off work,,and possibly more ...until I can get myself more on track.
I never would have imagined I would be faced with so many tears...so many worries... Being a working mom is so hard. :(
Greeneyes- I so am there with you! My anxiety level is through the roof. I hate dropping her off. I can say it has gotten better since the first day. I've been back to work for 1 month today. I'll admit though, there's days I'd rather just call in and stay with her. It's a tough balance and I'm struggling to get a grip on things. You said it: being a working mom is so very hard! Big hugs!
Today Trey is kinda being a pill - he does this about every 3 days or so. He doesn't want to sleep unless I'm holding him. Which is ok, sometimes, but I have things to do around here that I can't do with him in my arms, can't even do them with him in the Ergo. He is content to play on the floor on his playmat for 10-15 minute stretches, so I get a little done, but he is SO tired and only sleeps about 15-20 minutes at a time and if I put him down somewhere (doesn't matter where), he wakes up and fusses. I don't think anything is wrong cuz when I'm holding him he's all smiles, so not sure what the deal is. Just clingy/needy, I guess.
Went to visit a friend yesterday and she has 3 boys and was just astonished by how alert and strong Trey is. I don't have anything to compare it to since he is our first and I have never been around a lot of other newborns/infants. But she just couldn't get over it. Kinda cool to think he's a little advanced.
Prescott is almost 7 weeks old. I still have one more week off work. When I go back, I'm only part time, so it won't be so bad. Since breastfeeding didn't work out for us, I at least don't have to worry about pumping and all that. With my job, that was gonna be hard to do on a regular schedule, so it's somewhat of a relief.
Sleeping is going pretty well. I've been putting his down between 8-9 and he'll usually lay there awake for 30 min to an hour or so, and eventually drift off to sleep. Sometimes I have to go in and give him a paci for a few minutes to stop his crying, but not every night. Lately, most nights he'll sleep until around 2, and then 3-4 hour stretched after that. Not too bad for under 2 months. At least, I think that's good. lol Since we don't generally do much during the day, I will often not get up for the day until 10 or 11, just trying to squeeze in a couple more hours of sleep. The hardest part of the sleeping for me has not been the baby, but my inability to fall back to sleep quickly after I've been up feeding him. I will often lay there awake, brain racing, until the next time he wakes up! I hate it! If I could just fall right to sleep, like DH can, then I would be getting plenty of sleep! I just can't get my brain to shut the hell up.
I am not much into the sex thing either. It has nothing to do with the birth or baby per se, but when I think about doing it, I just don't want to. I was going to last weekend, after my 6 week check up was all clear, but when it came time, I just couldn't make myself. Hopefully this too shall pass, but for now, if he asks, I'll just blame being tired and hormonal. lol
We had Prescott's newborn pics taken at our house. Our photog is awesome!! We had to give him a paci a few times between shots to calm him down when he got fussy, but he mostly did great! I'll post some when I get a chance. They turned out great. He's such a cute little guy!
Overall he's a really good baby. He only full on cries when he's hungry, and while changing his diaper before he eats. He fusses when he's bored, wants to be held or talked to, is fighting sleep, or is having trouble pooping or farting, but it's not that bad. He has a fussy time in the evenings for about an hour or 2, but mostly holding him and giving him a bottle off and on will keep him fairly quiet. I can't really complain. It's definitely been an adjustment, and will be even more so when I go back to work, but we're figuring it out. The whole experience has taught me to stop trying to plan things. Nothing with this kid has gone as planned, and it's been really tough for me to accept, but I'm getting better.
I just feel like there's never enough time. I wake up between 4:30-5:00AM to pump, shower, eat breakfast and then get Brenna up at 6:30AM. Nurse her, give her cereal and head to daycare. Then I rush to work. Most days, I come home, nurse her, eat dinner, get her ready for bed and fall asleep myself. She's an awesome baby though!
She is ready for bed around 7:30 every night and will sleep until 6:30. I used to think this was way too much but it's the schedule she put herself on and it seems to be working for all of us.
I agree, it's an adjustment. I am so used to having ALONE time and now I have NONE. :) But I try to pawn him off on dad in the evenings and do stuff when he's napping so that I get that "normal" feeling back. And we do have a neighbor lady who has babysat him a time or two so that I can help with the cattle chores and that always makes me feel better.
He sleeps longer and longer at night which definitely makes my life better. Although we still have to work on the timing of sleep cuz he doesn't like to fall asleep till about midnight, is up at about 6:30 for a feeding/diaper change and then is out again till about 9:30. I would like to get him to sleep earlier and to use his crib, but we'll get to that another time, maybe. :)
He's pretty content to be left alone in his rocker or pack n play during the day, but in the evenings he wants to be held and talked to or he'll get fussy. So I'm usually able to get stuff done during the day, but as soon as I try to eat dinner, it's all about him. lol
