Just saying.....
okay. here is the story.
my birthday is on tuesday, my husband's was last week. For his birthday i have been finishing our basement for him to have a "man-cave" and today i have been spending time working on it. He has been outside playing with the kids.
My daughter comes down and calls me up and shows me the new helmet that her dad got her at walmart and then they surprised me with a porch swing that they had been putting together for me while i was painting. it is a birthday present so i can sit and swing while the kids are out front playing since they are not allowed to play outside without us.
Okay, now, this is where it gets a little harder to explain. We live close to a common intersection. not super busy, but busy enough. our neighborhood sits on the corner of the intersection on 7th and Q street. To get into our neighborhood you use 6th street and it is the only road through our neighborhood and just has cul-de-sacs on both sides all the way through. We are the first cul-de-sac and the corner house.
Our neighborhood is FILLED with kids. we are a half mile from the elementary school! our kids are 3.5 and 6.5. our neighbors next to us kids are 6 and 9. the neighbors across from us has a little girl who is 10 and then diagonally from us on the other cul-de-sac there are 6 kids (14, 10, 9, 7, 5 and 18 months). This means we have lots of kids out playing all the time! We even have a little sign we put out that says, "caution, kids playing"
today, while my husband was out with the kids my neighbor across from us was having a garage sale. No biggie. People were slowing down to park regardless. Our kids know if they see or hear a car they move to the curb and hold still until the car has passed and they NEVER go out of the cul-de-sac.
We all sat on the swing for awhile and then i went in to get a drink and my son hopped back on his tricycle and started peddling to the end of the driveway. as he got to the bottom he saw a car coming and stopped and was half on and half off the curb. The driver stops and my husband starts walking toward my son and says, "come on colin, back on the driveway". Since he was already half down he rode down the rest of the way and turned to peddle back up the driveway.
the guy in the car yells out his window. "Get your kid out of the street."
my husband says, "I'm coming."
the guy then circles around the cul-de-sac and parks across at my neighbors. i guess to go browse the garage sale. He says, "nice parenting. keep your kid out of the street."
my husband says, "oh, shut the hell up."
the guy says, "well, i am going to call SRS on you!"
at this point my neighbor has walked over and says, "Sir, this is my neighbor you are talking to. He was sitting right there (pointing to the swing) watching his son. We have a sign out for a reason."
So the guys starts yelling at them both. My neighbor gets pissed and starts yelling back, "These are the best parents in this whole subdivision! you need to just leave!"
So the guy gets back in his car, slams the door, and yells the whole way out of the neighborhood.
talk about putting a damper on your day!
okay. now i am missing something here? When did the pedestrians having the right of way rule go out the window? and since when is being outside with your kids riding a bike in a cul-de-sac an srs worthy offense?
I like to smile at those people and blow them kisses.. That really pisses them off. And tell them to have a nice day.. Boy oh boy, that usually sends them over the edge as they storm away.
That's how I roll.
Holy stink, I'm beat! Spent the day hiking to find a particular native vine for my garden. Found them and dug up 25 of those suckers! They have all been transplanted now. I don't think I am going to be able to move tomorrow. LOL! And to put a smile on my face, I just know that the neighbors will love me adding more plants.
My birthday is also on Tuesday.
We're gonna be 28, right?
