Before we met, my husband was wrongfully convicted of electronic solicitation of a minor and was set up by a police sting operation. Now, he is almost off of parole & we are looking to relocate. We are currently in the midwest and do not feel like this is the best place for us.
We want to find a fresh start somewhere and go to a state that could give us the most healthy and productive lives possible, given our situation. Are there states that are better than others for RSOs to live in? We are just thinking about the different laws each state has regrading RSOs, opportunities for employment, housing etc.
Thank you very much & my heart really hurts for all of you who have also been affected by this label & this broken justice system. Good luck to you all.

This isn't really bipolar related but there is never anyone on the parenting groups, this is the most active group I've been in.My 6yr old son has really bad seasonal allergies and they're in full force right now. He gets a terrible cough; he coughs all day and all night, making it hard for him to sleep, and his nose runs.I've tried every allergy medicine, OTC and RX, and none of them affect his...

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...
Advocate is also right about registration being a statutory requirement a judge has no real control over. It's only under certain rare circumstances that a judge can waive the registration requirement.
I did a little checking and according to Utah law if you are required to register in any other jurisdiction you must also register in Utah if you move there.
77-41-102
(c) (i) is required to register as an offender in any other jurisdiction, or who is required to register as an offender by any state, federal, or military court; and
(ii) in any 12 month period, is in this state for a total of 10 or more days, regardless of whether or not the offender intends to permanently reside in this state;
For offenses committed in Utah, the statutory registration requirement is lifetime for repeat offenders and those with Aggravated Sexual Offenses and 10 years for all other enumerated sex offenses.
The reason I think it might be based on SORNA is because most states that are SORNA compliant have the tier system. Under the SORNA tier system my son would have 10-15 years on the registry. Florida, although they have been listed since very early on as SORNA compliant I have never been able to figure out why they are – for one thing they do not practice the tier system – everyone is life on the registry – period. Understand my son was not given life on the registry by a judge or any such thing – ALL people adjudicated for a sex crime in Florida are life on the registry for life even adjudication withheld. I even found this page where SORNA acknowledges that Florida does not have the tier system etc. but they did not take them from the list of states that were compliant. When I sent an email asking about it the answer was that they had complied enough. From what I understand SORNA considers things that do not meet minimum standards to be non compliant but anything that exceeds the standards (like lifetime registration for tier 1 offenses) is ok.
So I guess the bottom line is this – states are all different – and cities and counties for that matter. Before I would ever move as a registered citizen or advise one to move I would make sure I know all the details. You talked about what is fair and what is not – fairness does not really play into any of these laws. What I do not think is fair is that my son’s crime in Florida carries lifetime registration (all do) but 2 states over he would be on the registry for 10 years. Several states away he would not be on a public registry at all. That is what is not fair. I am not asking for any special treatment toward my son – just trying to have some hope and feeling angry that by the virtue of the state he lives in his punishment is 100 times longer than the same crime in another state.
Probation was difficult, but as for restrictions now being off really do not have any.
Register once a year, renew drivers license.
Can hunt, fish, go to parks with my kids and in my area no restrictions where you can live.
No Halloween nightmares and even if the told me to stay home I would not, There is no law in Texas that says you have to, only for those on probation, etc.
So in the end I do not think any state is perfect, but Florida does seem like the worst.

Do individual states have the right to run a sex offender registry as they see fit? Absolutely but the extreme differences in registration requirements also flies in the face of fundamental fairness when you consider that many states wouldn't have a sex offender registry except for federal legislation mandating that they do.
Coastie - Seriously?? Advocate has done nothing but treat your comments with respect. If you don't like her opinions don't talk to her. If you don't want to be treated like a childish ass then for God's sake stop acting like one.
Please do not speak to me and I will show you the same courtesy......Thank you....
Aladin was only telling you to be nice that there was no reason to talk to Advocate the way you did. If you don't like what people say on here, then don't respond to their comments. Advocate didn't say anything to deserve the posts you aimed at her. You too can show courtesy.
