Right now I live in Tennessee my conviction was out of Texas I finished up my time here in Tennessee now that I'm done I'm trying to decide where would be the best place for me to go to finish out the rest of my time I just trying to seek somebody I can talk to about it that would know better idea of where to end up am I allowed to put emails up here phone numbers addresses or what

I am an RSO, i travel a lot and i have been classified between level 1 and level 3 depending on the state, i spent 31 days in jail, rest suspended with no restrictions. My "victims" family have been hugely supportive and are currently letting me rent property they own.
I have a job, am married and doing relatively alright however the RSO status has been beyond awful.

I have found Washington State to be the best, Florida to be the worst (currently have several pending lawsuits with them).
Oregon is also pretty good they uses a rubric to classify that is based more on risk.
Washington State does 100% risk based assessment. they use fact based evidence laws and its very effective.

I am currently in the process of leaving the country for good.

The Bible belt is anything but. Full of self-righteous, self-serving, self-enriching politicians who use SO laws to win elections because they have no real ideas how to serve their voters. I reside in one of the worst Bible belt states, and have just grown weary of trying to overcome the suffocating laws. I am old now, and just waiting for the end to come, hopefully soon.

MaggiesMine, I would recommend Colorado, and certain cities in colorado suck to register in, like centennial, Colorado springs, Littleton but there is plenty of other cities that are fine

I am in Michigan and my son was caught up in a bad situation with his girlfriend and her sister. He broke up with his girlfriend after 5 years and her younger sister (15 at the time) asked if she could be his girlfriend. He was 23 at the time and told her no way. She then accused him of raping her. He was contacted by the police and cooperated and 4 years went by and he didn't hear anything. Then one day he received what we thought was junk mail from an attorney stating he had a warrant for his arrest. We followed up and he did have a warrant. We hired an attorney and he turned himself in. We did not think he had anything to worry about because he didn't rape her. He wanted to fight it all the way in court to a jury trial. But unfortunately, he admitted to having sex with his ex-girlfriend and she was 15 when they started dating and he was 17. The prosecutor offered him a plea and said if he didn't take it he would add a 2nd charge for the girlfriend. Which he already admitted to having sex with and even if it was consensual he could be charged because she was 15 and he was 17. They lived together when she was 16 and he was 18. The Prosecutor said he would change the charge to CSC III and would charge him for both girls. He would be facing 15 years in prison for each charge. He ended up taking the plea of "attempted-accosting a child for immoral purposes", which is a 4 year max sentence and a misdemeanor. (attempted would cut it in half) He received 5 years probation and has to register for 25 years. The alleged incident was over 5 years ago and he had since married, had a child and another one on the way. He and his wife bought a house that is near a school (prior to all the coming about) He freaked out when they made him register because of the 1000' rule, but we cannot figure out if he was breaking the rule so he moved into my mother's home (his grandmother) and she moved into his home. This is not working out so well and my mother wants to move back to her home. He cannot sell his house because my name is on the home and we owe back taxes and I had to file bankruptcy (husband lost job). The last 2 years have been a mess and I don't know who to turn to for answers. I called the state police about him living near a school and what the 1000 ft. rule is. Door to door, address to address (on mapquest), property line to property line (but how do you know where your property ends, what belongs to the school, the neighbors, etc.). they told me the law is grey and he would be best to talk to the Prosecuting Attorney that handled his case. She was a not so nice person..she didn't even want him to see his own daughter and the judge ruled against her. He is 28 years old now and his life is upside down. He is also mentally disabled so he doesn't work so just renting another home is not really an option. I am so afraid his wife is going to leave him because of all the hassle and he won't get to see his daughters. Any help?? What is the true way to measure the 1000' rule? How long can the prosecutors hold up changing the laws (due to Snyder vs. Doe's)? Will that even affect him? Will this nightmare ever end? Should he move out of Michigan?

I used to live in MI. Had my original convictions there as well. Had the same issues your son has as far as finding a place to live, and finding answers to discrepancies in the law. It is a very gray scale and a very thin line. One place I looked into moving into, the local PD could not give me a definite answer on where the 1000 ft mark started and finished. After going through several calls and rounds with them, they told me to go to the State Police, even though the local PD would have been my reporting place. I was given a good answer by the state police and one a stuck with. Curb of the property line to curb of the property line. That is where the if taken to court you would probably win your case. Because in Michigan law, it does not say, if you google map it, or walk it out, or measure it out with a tape, where the distance is. And I did all those things. Eventually getting that answer from the state police is what I stuck with. In the complete end, the state police is really your jurisdiction areas all together.

I'm new here. My son is still waiting Pretrial after 2 yrs being in LMDC in Kentucky. We live in Utah. We are his only family support he has. What are his chances of being able to serve his probation here in Utah. An what would he have to do for restrictions while on Probation. He is facing 3 felony counts of SO under the age of 12..

His changes of him being able to transfer his probation from Kentucky to Utah are very good indeed.

He will have to use a program called “Interstate Compact” to transfer his probation from Kentucky to Utah.

The receiving state---Utah---has to agree to accept him, but I don’t think that will be a problem especially since he already has family in that state willing to support him.

Usually the offender must wait until formal sentencing to apply for an Interstate Compact transfer, but the process is not usually very complicated and painless. Usually the offender notifies his probation officer, who then begins the paperwork with the receiving state to begin the transfer.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON AN ATTORNEY TO GET YOUR SON SENT TO UTAH VIA INTERSTATE COMPACT. The state of Kentucky will do most of the paperwork for you.

I have helped hundreds of offenders over the years use Interstate Compact to transfer their supervision.

I don’t know exactly how Kentucky and Utah will handle this situation, but it can be done. So, here is some phone numbers and people to contact for more information regarding an Interstate Compact transfer for your son.

You are EXTREMELY wise to want to get your son out of Kentucky to Utah. Not only is his family---meaning you--- in Utah, but Kentucky is a very difficult state for sex offender registrants.

If you are not in Florida, don't even consider Florida. My husband is a registered Violent Predator, per law. In real, he learned and changed. Best men by far. We first had one of the worst Probation offices, moved, have a great PO, but awful Sheriff office. Our situation is also more complicated since not the county where we are living is involved, but 2 others and life time probation. Tough life. He's been on VOP twice with monitor issues, despite the fact that they all agreed one of them was not willful nor substantial, they did not dismiss! They wrote it all down but did not dismiss...end of story means guilty, despite any word! Now he is in jail for misdemeanor, PO officer wanted to first talk and see...Sheriff did what he wanted! It's not only the strict Probation laws and we are lucky we don't have to abide to any law that applies to offenders of underage victims. But there are tons of laws, where you can so easily offend.....Now we are considering to move, at least somewhere, where there are fewer restrictive laws outside the Probation itself. My husband does handyman work, and he got caught in a sting, just for a minor electrical job he was not supposed to do, enough for a VOP for the Sheriff. Believe it or not here in our county you are not even allowed to paint as a handyman!!! How ridiculous is this?

But how does interstate transfer work? Do I have to find work in the other state and move up there on my own, hoping my husband can follow, but not knowing for sure? Or can we move together? How will is VOP's affect to get permission?
