I just read that a man in China went into a school this morning as well and stabbed 22 children. You would think the teachers would have been able to prevent that!! Fortunately for the kids they will most likely survive. People are going to do harm no matter what they have access to for weapons :(

I'm just stating a fact in the constitution. I really don't see why any civilian needs a gun that rivals an AK-47. Whether they get these types of guns illegally or legally....I cannot say but I would but in a lot of cases a person committing and illegal act was doing it in an illegal manner. It is too bad our forefathers could not forsee this. There are gangs who have these type of weapons......people who live in these types of neighborhoods could probably explain it better to I could because I personally don't feel the need for these types of weapons.

You are right charliegirl. In these type of massacres the killers are usually have an arsenal designed to take out as many people as people. Why is it necessary for people to own these things? I can understand a hunter owning a rifle, but why does someone need a stockpile of assault weapons and ammo? What other purpose is there in owning them other than leaving a trail of mass destruction behind?

I don't have an answer for this. I had a neighbor at one time who I knew had this type of weapon. He never shot anyone with it I just went the notion and chalked it up to over-compensating and needing to feel a sense of power. I don't see the actual necessity of high powered weapons unless you are in the zone where these weapons can and will be used against you. The civilian world should not be one of these places.

I can only give a bad example of people having the right to distribute cigarettes which are pretty much lethal. How lethal does a weapon have to be before they ban it completely? I guess that is my question.

Lanza He is one sick person I don't know. if he has mental illness or not But a normal person would not do such a thing He Killed 20 childern I don't understand why anyone would want to hurt a child His mother worked at the school I am starting. to think that maybe he thought that his mother. loved these kids more. than she loved him and he became angery We probarly. will never know why he did it I just feel so bad for the familes and the staff at the school We need tougher laws on guns so that this sort of thing does not happen again.

I understand that people can kill with most any type of weapon or device. But if I'm in a situation where someone has an AK47 or a knife, bat, etc., I like my chances against stopping someone with a knife or bat versus an AK47 that can spit out hundreds of bullets in a mere few seconds. You want to hunt with a rifle or bow, fine. But there's not a whole lot that will make me believe that ordinary citizens need weapons like AK's. Those are for one purpose only, to kill when the need to kill is there, as in war and defending your country from invasion.
I am a proponent of hard labor. Prison is too easy for people who commit such heinous acts. As a Christian, I'm supposed to find it within myself to forgive. But I just can't. And I can't see how any parent who's child died today, could forgive also. Ever! Yet amazingly, some people do. It's just such an unthinkable act and that poor community and so many peoples lives have been changed forever! This world is spinning out of control, in so many ways, and I hope that our generation and those to come can figure this out before it's too late. Too much hatred in this world. Too much....

This is such a tragedy. I am keeping my thoughts and prayers on the families of the fallen. God take hold and help them through this.

The weapon he used was not like an AK47. An AK 47 is an automatic weapon that continues to fire as long as you hold down the trigger .
The rifle he used was an AR15 which is called an "assault weapon"
because it is shorter and able to shot from longer range than a "normal
rifle" . He could have done the same thing with a hunting rifle from Wal
Mart. I am NOT trying to minimize what happened ..just trying to clarify the situation. Automatic weapons [ AK47 type ] have been banned in this
country for a long time. We may get to the point where we have an armed guard at every school , like the air marshals on flights. We live in a sad time in our history.

now its ak47's, right, you keep the focus on gun laws and detract from the real issue, I wonder what is going to distract you if the guns are outlawed.

So what happens when ONLY the bad guys have guns. They're going to get them illegally if they want them. Just like illegal drugs , theyre impossible to stop. We have people carrying guns in this coutry since it
existed . I dont know why things have spiraled out of control since Columbine but its the crazy people that are the problem. Take away all
the guns and you'll have mass murders with knives [ like in China today]
or cross bows or axes . Make a law that every one in the country must turn in their guns and the crazies and criminals will be the only ones who wont comply.
