Definitely.
In adding this Comment, I Puter, do promise to be nice.
And I realize that that has alot to do with the possibility of being open to anyone, anyway.
I'll figure it out. We all will.
I liked one of the earliest comments here, about the FULL PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION before walking down the aisle. But it shouldn't be just for the spouse-to-be -- BOTH PARTIES have to be really ok with their pasts and have worked on their individual issues before being joined in a marriage if it's going to stay good and be emotionally healthy.
I learned TONS about myself during my 18 Months of Hell and know I am fully aware of my shortcomings and weaknesses. Tom also spent lots of time in therapy when he went through his divorce. We both know what is required for a HEALTHY, LASTING MARRIAGE and it requires a lot of attention and effort on the part of BOTH PARTNERS.
Anyone responding here with such a negative voice ought to consider therapy! If you were betrayed and/or abandoned, it wasn't necessarily your fault...both people are at fault when a marriage breaks down. I was at fault because I kept my mouth shut and let my ex walk around brooding all the time. I knew in my heart of hearts that he was never fully committed to our marriage. I should have called him on the carpet and given him an ultimatum AND STUCK TO IT years before he ran off.
Being true to yourself is all about SETTING LIMITS and knowing your own weaknesses. History will continue to repeat itself unless you get in touch with all the history that is part of your conditioning.
Hate to sound like a preacher here, but this is what I know to be true.
P.S. Tom and I got engaged last August and we plan to marry in March 2013, so you can see I'm not "rushing into anything."
Why would I marry a second time if I am not planning to have more children? (My x-FIL asked me early on why I got married if I was not going to have children right after the wedding.)
Is living together a better alternative later in life?
Very few here were adamant about it. In fact, most said 'who knows' or 'never say never'.
I can easily understand being able to say, 'right now, it wouldn't make sense.' Most of us are on thin ice.
I came up with two plans.
One.. A duplex for you and the one you love. Promotes easy access, while still providing a measure of being alone. He can have the buddies over, drink and watch baseball and he can be responsible for it after. She can have the girls over in a group for a "toy" party and he won't have to be privy to things that leave a lasting impression on the eyes and brain..
Two. Mamalyn and I have talked many times of buying adjoining cabins. finding twins that like to wear kilts, and play "music" , having fun with them but having a best gf close by to vent too, laugh with, and grow old with.
Both sound doable to me. Hugs, Kimmee
But for you, I will immediately start taking applications and go through the arduous task of making sure they are suitable;-) Smooches,. Kimmee
I know that sounds real bad (where's the love right?) but in today's day and age (with 50% divorce rates and even higher for second marriages) it's irresponsible to not have one.
