Wife infatuated with ex from 26 years ago..UPDATE

UPDATE 5 YEARS LATER. 4/15/2022 Go to last post.
Need to vent. My wife and I have been together a total of 12 years, 7 married. We seemed to be doing fine, taking trips, having intamicy, and talking about our future together. Then something changed. One and a half weeks before Easter she pulls me in the room and tells me she's no longer in love and there's something missing between us and she wants a separation. Of course I was shocked and I did all the wrong things like begging, saying I will do whatever she wants, writing her letters and so on. Well on Easter I logged into the phone bill and see that she has been calling the same number and texting for about a month very frequently and multiple times daily. I asked her and she admits that she has been talking to a boyfriend that she dated 26 years ago when she was 21 and now she has feelings for him. He got her number from a mutual friend. This guy asked her to marry him back then and she said no and then married her ex-husband. During their marriage this guy contacted her. She said she was married and that was that. Her marriage went downhill and her ex-husband cheated and so on and she ended up divorced. I think she had got it in her head that if she would've married this guy she would've had some kind of a perfect life. Me and her met after that and we grew together and had a great relationship and marriage. Her whole basis for falling for this guy now is "He never forgot about me" or "he never stopped looking for me." Sounds like some kind of high school girl when she talks, definitely not the 47-year-old that she is. This scumbag is a divorced father of three and an ex LAPD cop. I think he might've been fired. My wife has always been a little gullible and very easily manipulated and this guy obviously has manipulated her and she allowed it. One of the first things he asked her is "are you 100% happy in your marriage" and she said "not 100%." Of course he immediately started telling her everything she wants to hear and suddenly I mean nothing anymore. We are still in the same house and she acts like she doesn't even know me and it's extremely awkward and hurtful but I'm trying to take care of myself and her kids whom I've raised with her. They are both extremely upset and hurt. They were one and a half years old and six years old when I met them and now they are 13 and 18. She's been trying to manipulate and bribe the 13-year-old by telling him this guy wants to take him fishing and take him to a Bears versus Panthers game to which he replied that he is not going with her and going to move in with his biological father. It's very sad because this is completely out of character for her. She has always been an excellent mom and would've looked down on this behavior anytime before this. Not sure if she's going through some kind of midlife crisis but anyway I know what I have to do at this point. Thanks for reading this.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
I feel bad for you. So many people's marriages fall apart from this kind of silly nonsense.
Grass always looks greener and no one appreciates what they have.
out Spouse. They are emotionally Disconnected from you
and the marriage. They had made their decision long before
ever acting on it.
You will only get trickle information from her, they probably
Hooked up on social media and it went from there would Be
my guess.
I am sorry for all your hurt and pain, i find divorce care and
Therapy help a lot with the grieving and the divorce process.
HUGS
If the answer is going online and starting an affair, we're all in trouble.
It IS an excuse. And it's happening every day because we all have computer access.
Funny how the answer is never "I'll go take some classes to improve my life" or "start a new hobby". It's "let me look up old boy/girlfriends"
Or "an affair is the answer to my problems"
Sorry to hear about this man.
I have some similarities in my story. Wife works from home I'm out typically for 12 hours.
She told me last year that we have grown distant and two months later she admits she has feeling for a guy she met on a girls weekend. They were just friends and the feelings "just happened".
We never truly separated and I even thought things were better towards the tail end of last year....all to be told the day after her birthday that she doesn't think she was true to her feelings and didn't get the chance to truly find out what makes her happy. Finally a time to put herself first. My career before kept me at work almost 7 days a week especially spring through beginning of fall.
I feel that working from home was a catalyst to her social media addiction. I've never seen someone so much ona phone before......
Hope things get better for you man.
They were seriously involved in the past, he was probably having her in his mind for all those years. Why not? It is possible. I do not think he is manipulating with her. He just wants to be with her. As people age their values change too. May be for him the only thing that matters in life is her. I believe in truth love.
I understand how frustrated you are. Just a horrible situation. Let her to settle down. She has not seen him for ,many years. May be in the beginning it all feels like promising and rewarding connection. You can not stop her. Then, she knows you afraid to loose her. It gives her a sense of control over you.
May be changing the technique will help some. Do not beg, do not ask. Make it sure you will not take her back and you will be able to move on. I wish you good luck.
