You Can Let Go Daddy!It makes me cry almost every time but it's a great song for anyone who has lost a father.

The Lucinda Williams song "Sweet Old World", written for her brother who committed suicide. ("See what you lost when you left this world, this sweet old world.") There are at least 2-3 other good ones from that album, including one about her brother's death and how unreal it felt when she found out.

I LOVE the Roseanne Cash album "Black Cadillac." She lost her birth mother, her father (Johnny Cash), and her stepmom (June Carter Cash) all very close together. This album came out of that. There are at least five good songs about mourning. It's the theme of the whole album, but I have about five favorites. A few favorite lyrics:

When I saw her in concert, she said something about how a life ends but the relationship continues. I found that true and very deep. I have talked and even argued with my grandmother after her death. I feel the energy of my great uncle supporting me right now.

A note about "Sweet Child O'Mine." There IS a Carol King song called "Child of Mine." It is NOT the same song as the Guns-N-Roses version. Theirs was called "Sweet Child O'Mine" and it's not a cover song.

I would have to say Butterfly Kisses and Dance With My Father. My sister got married in June and my father got killed in July. Butterfly Kisses was the song she had played for him when he walked her down the aile. When I got married in May of 2006 I had Dance With My Father Again in the memory of my father. That was the toughest day of my life. Not being able to have my dad there on my wedding day.

Laura........ I TOTALLY relate to your comment about "The Living Years" by Mike and the Mechanics. That song came out shortly after my Dad passed away and it broke my heart because it was like I could have written it! My Dad and I had a rocky relationship at times. I was 23 years old when he passed, and we had had only one really good week together. There was so much I didn't get to say. We did hug and say "I love you" - that was important. That song still touches my heart.
