Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
It's been almost two weeks since we've had an update on Tony. I've been praying several times a day for you guys. How are you all doing?
Julie
Tony continues to feel well, he's in the nader now but chimerism results came back up from 68% to 83% as of three weeks ago, T cells are full donor. Hoping for second DLI soon. Re-check next week and get a plan for upcoming treatment.
Oh liver enzymes were up bc of Voriconozole not gvh so DLI will be a go!
I'm well, 16 weeks pregnant today. Nausea subsided a bit and getting a bit more energy back. I'm a high risk pregnancy patient so I get thou rough ultrasounds every 2 weeks which is pretty cool! I knew I was high risk going in so that's not a surprise at least

I'm VERY happy to read that Tony is responding so well to the new treatments!! Also, congratulations to you both on your little bun in the oven!

Ive been pretty quiet lately, just trying to be as "normal" as possible, but ive found that suppressing my sadness or anger, or ignoring it, has in deed done the opposite of heal, it's lead me to a dark place
I'm tired you guys, I'm so so so tired, and I don't see it getting better. I know most of you don't like to talk about this stuff, but why else are we here? I'm here for support.
Why does treatment work for some and not for others, why must I lie awake at 3 am paralyzed with fear, fear we will lose him. Why is he not in remission yet, again?
Our beautiful daughter turned four last month, our new baby is due in 3 months, and there's more uncertainty in our lives now than ever. If these chemo/dli's don't work, how will we get through it? How will we get through a THIRD induction in my third trimester. What if Tony's in the hospital while I go into labor, or while I recover from a c-section while tending to a new born and a toddler.
Why the f#%^ is this happening to us? I have thought a lot lately of those we've lost and how grateful I am that we can still fight, I've given thanks, for our recent little victories - and I have cursed our set backs! I've prayed to the point of my own insanity, asking God to heal him, to save Izzys daddy, over and over and over, and asking God to take my worries and fears away, perhaps It's not enough.
All i know is i can't go on like this, AML has ruined me, it has taken away the true person I've been for 39 years, I am a shell of my old strong, funny, vibrant self. It's torn through my family and left my mom a widow and now threatens me and my own little family once again! God help me, and may God help us all dealing with this.
I had to write to you. I feel your anguish, your pain, your frustration and I wish I knew what to do or say to make you feel better. You and I are similar in age and we both lost our dads to this terrible disease. I wonder if you know how strong you are? I know, what good does that do when the one you love is battling this disease. Strength doesn't make the disease disappear. I think of all that you are going through and I just want you to know that you are remarkable. I've never recovered from my dad's battle and passing. I say all the time that I am a shell of my former self, just like you said. All of the questions you are asking, they are all too familiar to me. I hate that you have this worry - to go through this with two loved ones is cruel. I know it's easy for me to say... and people used to tell me this all the time, but we are not in control. I would try to calm myself by reminding myself that no matter how much I cry or worry, it won't change what is meant to be. Try to take it one day at a time, live in the moment. None of us are guaranteed a tomorrow. Lea, I am thinking of you and wishing you peace and strength. I am praying for restored health for Tony. If you ever want to chat, feel free to write. Hang in there. xo
